The Seattle Mariners (50-72) visit the Rogers Centre for a three-game series against the Blue Jays (51-73).

The Mariners and the Jays have near-identical w/l records, with Seattle being dead-last in their A.L. West division.

The Mariners are 3&7 in their last ten games, while the Jays are 6&4.

Toronto comes off having won two out or three from the Texas Rangers in their most recent series.

The Jays Randal Grichuk has been a torch this month with a 1.076 OPS ALONG WITH HRs13 RBIS and 6 HRs.  This is what the Jays signed him for anyways.  Grichuk has never been known as a first-half performer, so it?s no surprise to see him banging away.

Rowdy Tellez is back with the club after a stint in Triple A Buffalo.  Hope Rowdy?s gets his groove back.

Back-to-back home runs break club record!

That?s right.  Vladdy Jr., &  Grichuk both blasted back-to-back homers in the third inning enroute to the Blue Jays 7-3 win over the Mariners.

Derek Fisher and Danny Jansen also homered, with Fisher?s being a two-run tater earlier in the game.

Jays starter Jacob Waguespack was instrumental in keeping things in order on the mound.  He pitched five innings, allowed two runs, struck out five.
The relievers also contributed the rest of the way, except for a blip by Shafer who allowed the third Seattle run.

In today?s game, Mariners starter lefty Yusel Kikuchi stymied the Blue Jays to a measly two-hitter long into the ninth with the win.

The Blue Jays (52-75) visit Dodger Stadium in a three-game Interleafue series against the Los Angeles Dodgers (82-44).

The L.A.Dodgers, the N.L. West division leaders, sport the second-best w/l record in MLB after the A.L.East?s New York Yankees.  Not too far behind L.A. among baseball?s best teams are the A.L.West?s Houston Astros.

The Dodgers are third in  the majors in home runs with 218, and Cody Belinger leads with 42 of those, the most of any current player. 
L.A. is first in ERA (3.35) and first WHIP (1.11) and fourth in OPS (.341).

A familiar face for Jays fans in a Dodger uniform ? Russell Martin, former Jays catcher, long since traded to L.A.

It is unknown if Vladdy Guerrero Jr. will suit up at all for any of the games in this series.  His medical evaluation turned up negative with no major damage to his inflamed knee.  That was, is, of itself, a relief to the Blue Jays. 
(It was the same knee that had Guerrero sitting out for five weeks back in Triple A Buffalo).

It?s been nearly a decade since the Blue Jays last visited Dodger Stadium.

What a farce of a game this was.

One of the best among starters in the N.L, the Dodgers Clayton Kershaw kept the Jays offence off-balance for seven innings and the L.A. bullpen did the rest.  Only Bo Bichette and Derek Fisher was able to solve Kershaw, with Bichette hitting two successive home runs off him. 
L.A. crushed the Blue Jays 16-3.

Kershaw, by the way, surpassed L.A. great Sandy Koufax in club wins,

What looked almost comical was seeing the recently recalled Richard Ure?a pitching in relief in the eighth inning.  (He allowed four runs on four hits). 
As if that weren?t enough, it sure was a bit better than Jays starter Sean Reid-Foley who allowed five runs in one inning.  This just wasn?t a Blue Jay pitcher?s night.

Much better.  Still...

...it was heartbreaking for the Jays as they competed bat to bat with the powerhouse Dodgers.  It was Matt Muncy?s walk-off home run in the bottom of the tenth that gave L.A. the 2-1 victory Wednesday.

This game was a far cry from Tuesday?s debacle (a 16-3 shellacking of the Jays by the Dodgers).
Jays Wilmer Font started on the mound followed by Buddy Boshers.  Then came Zach Godley in the fourth, who?s first pitch ended up a Dodger home run.  Godley then went on to shut down the rest of the Dodgers lineup.  Adams & Giles provided further relief, but alas, it was loser Mayza who tossed L.A.?s game-winning homer.

Wait, something?s missing here.  Yes, Toronto?s Rowdy Tellez?s game-tying solo shot in the ninth inning. 
It became a pitcher?s duel until the tenth.

Another heartbreaker.

This time the Blue Jays were leading 2-0 right up until the ninth, when the Dodgers scored three off reliever Derek Law and carve out a 3-2 win,

Jays starter Jacob Waguespack was the real show of the night.  Waguespack pitched a gem allowing zero runs, and had been riding a one-hitter going into the seventh inning.  He baffled the L.A. offence as he struck out six in the process.

The Blue Jays (52-78) venture to T-Mobile Park for a three-game series against the Seattle Mariners (54-74).

This weekend (Aug.23-25) marks Player?s Weekend, where we?re sure to see some (strange) player nicknames. 

The Seattle Mariners haven?t had much to sing about this season, dead-last in the A.L. West.  However, the Mariners are doing better in two categories ? fifth in HRs (204) & third in SB (90).  The Jays by comparison are 11th in HR (199) & 26th in SB (37).

The Jays come off on the losing end of a their series against MLB?s powerhouse Dodgers, where two out of those three losses were heartbreaking.  After that 16-3 first game debacle, the Blue Jays went toe-to-toe with the Dodgers in the next subsequent two games.

There was a positive note here as the Jays competed and their pitching shown brightly.  Every positive step counts for this youngest of teams.  Holding their own against a top club says a lot about the bounce-back character of the team.

Throngs of Blue Jay fans are expected to descend T-Mobile Park here in Seattle, with plenty of cheering to boot.

C?mon Blue Jays, let?s string together some wins.

The Canadian Invasion roars!

With T-Mobile Park-turned-RogersCentre, the Blue Jays had no shortage of cheering as they downed the hometown Mariners 7-5.

Home runs by Hernandez and Bichette paved the way for Toronto.

Bo the Amazing had his 21st extra-base hit and isn?t too far in chasing DiMaggio?s & Brooks record accomplishment in 22 and 25 games respectively.  As if that isn?t enough, Bichette?s leads all major leaguers in that category plus he?s batting .345.  The Bo train just keeps getting better!

Jays Wilmer Font started on the mound followed by Brock Stewart (a.k.a. Beef Stew), who got the win. 
Derek Law (a.k.a. Lapdog) got the save.

The Atlanta Braves (80-53j visit the Rogers Centre for a two-game interleague series against the Blue Jays (53-80).

The Braves are tops in their N.L. East division and are among one of the best teams in the league.

Blue Jay fans remember Alex Anthopoulos when he was the main man running the team.  Nowadays, Anthopoulos, the Braves? GM, has been amassing talent to build up his Braves, and so far, so very well done.
Josh Donaldson, ?Bringer of Rain? will make his return to Toronto and face his former club.

Among Atlanta hitters, Freddy Freeman comes to mind, leading the team in both HRs & RBIs. 
The Braves are sixth in runs scored with 704, and fifth in HRs (210). 
The Blue Jays are eleventh in HRs (202).

The Jays come off having lost two out of three to the Mariners in Seattle in their most recent series.  It has been a tough road week for the Bluebirds in both L.A. against the Dodgers, and in Seattle against the Mariners.

A good learning curve for the young Jays, holding their own against L.A. (bouncing back from that first game debacle) and competing in the rest of the series. 
Against the Mariners, the Jays offence ran dry, but at least it felt like ?home?, what with 20,000+ Jays fans invading T-Mobile Park.

A winning streak hasn?t materialized, so come on Blue Jays go out there and rock ?em!

The Bringer of Rain welcomed ?home?.

Ex Blue Jay Josh Donaldson was given a video tribute plus a standing ovation prior to the commencement of the game.  Toronto hasn?t forgotten the contributions Donaldson, otherwise known as J.D., gave the team during his time here. 
Surely Atlanta GM and former Jay boss Alex Anthopoulos didn?t forget and scooped up free agent Donaldson for the Braves last season.

Anyway, back to the game...which the Jays  emerged victorious by a 3-1 score.

Justin Smoak?s two RBIs (including a seventh inning solo homer run), and Vladdy Guerrero Jr.?s RBI single were all the markers the Jays needed on this night, as starter Wilmer Font along with Zach Godley, and the rest of the Jays bullpen crew shut down the Braves bats.

Godley pitched the longest after Font, and was the winning pitcher,  and closer Giles got the save.

Mr. Steady Justin Smoak has now had three consecutive seasons of hitting 20 home runs.

Biggio, Bichette, McGuire, Tellez  were the other hitters who reached base.  Tellez and Biggio?s attempts to outrun the bases met the speed & power of the Braves outfield, among one of the better ones in baseball, with Ronald Acu?a Jr. out there.

Blue Jays lose 9-4.

The Jays brought the game close, coming back from a 5-0 deficit, but the Braves' three runs in the seventh sealed the win for Atlanta.

Jays starter Jacob Waguespack did not have a good outing as he allowed five runs (three earned) on six hits to take the loss.

The Houston Astros arrive in Toronto for a three-game series against the Blue Jays.

The Astros, leaders in the A.L. West and owners of the third best w/l record in the league, have practically secured their crown in their division.  With a six-game winning streak going, nothing looks to stop this team, as has been the case all season long.

Jays fans get to see among MLB's best pitchers in Justin Verlander and some former Jays such as Joe Biagini, Aledmys Diaz, and Roberto Osuna.
Aaron Sanchez is currently on the IL.

As for the Blue Jays, they're coming off a draw in their most recent two-game series against the Atlanta Braves.

Vladdy Guerrero Jr. leads all A.L. rookies in doubles (23) and is third in runs scored (47).  He's also second in hits (59).  This is only the beginning of what promises to be an eventful career for "El K".  Just like the rest of the Jays rookies & prospects, particularly Bo Bichette, who are providing the rejuvenation for a once-proud franchise.
In other words, so far, the kids are definitely alright.

The Astros are first in OBP (.351), second in WHIP (1.14) & BA (.276) and fourth in HRs (226) & Runs scored (747).
The Jays are eleventh in HRs (203).

It was ?Star Wars Night? at the Rogers Centre Friday but the force didn?t help the Jays.  Another ho hum loss as the Astros win 7-4.

Jays got solo homers from McGuire, Biggio, and Fisher.  Even so, the Astros put the brakes on the Jays offence which had trouble the entire game ((save for those  home runs).

Jays starter Trent Thornton had little offensive support.  He struck out six in five innings but allowed the four runs (one unearned) on six hits.
The relievers, namely Josh Adam and Tim Mayza ran into some trouble each allowing several runs scored.

Yer out!
Guerrero Jr., got turfed in contesting the calls by the umpire.  Frustration no doubt on a night like this for the Jays offence.  Oh well.

Beautiful day!

The kids lambasted the Astros pitching (avenging yesterday?s loss) with plenty of infield histrionics in leading Toronto to a 6-4 win this afternoon.

The Jays staked out a 5-0 lead by the fourth inning on two-run homers from Hernandez & Biggio.  Biggio finished with three RBIs while Hernandez with two.

Nearly every player contributed in the hits department, most notably Bo Bichette who just keeps adding to the MLB history books.

Jays starter Clay Bucholtz finally got his first win as a Jay.  He pitched a little over five innings, allowed two runs while limiting the opposition to three hits.
It was also a bit of a redemption by the relievers who did a far better job of stymying Houston?s bats as compared to Friday?s game.  Good job there.
Closer Giles got the save.

N-o  h-i-t-t-e-r!

Those two words belong to Astros starter Justin Verlander who blanked the Jays in this afternoon?s game, enroute to his team winning 2-0.

Verlander effectively ended Bo Bichette?s MLB hitting parade.  Awww.....

It was actually a scoreless game all the way to the top of the ninth when with the Jays closer Giles pitching, Canadian prospect Abraham Toro Slammer a two-run homer that proved the winner.

The Blue Jay pitchers ? Font, Gaviglio, & Godley ? all limited Houston to five hits.  Too bad for Giles? miscue, otherwise this ballgame would have gone on and on.

The Blue Jays (55-83) venture to Sun Trust Park for a two-game interleague series against the Atlanta Braves(84-54).

The last time the Jays & Braves played a two-gamer was in Toronto a week ago, with both teams splitting their series.

Atlanta?s w/l record is among one of the best in the league (fifth).  The Braves occupy first place in their N.L.East division, but the second-place Washington Nationals are hot on the heels being 5.5 GBL.

The Jays lost two out of three in their most recent series against the Astros.  They were no-hit by Justin Verlander and as much as that hurt, kudos to Verlander for his pitching brilliance.

Vladdy Guerrero Jr., has been on a torrid pace with a .341 BA, .406 OBP, & .977 OPS.  Not bad at all for a rookie. 

Let?s keep it going, guys!

Close but the Braves win it 6-3.

The score was 4-3 in the eighth for the Braves when reliever Buddy Boshers was dinged for a two-run homer that sealed the win for Atlanta.

The Jays trailed 4-0 at one point and by the fifth inning they had narrowed the score still trailing 4-3.  A pair of solo home runs by Grichuk & Tellez helped in the process.

Jays starter Jacob Waguespack took the loss as he ran into ball trouble early in the game.  In four innings of play, Waguespack allowed four runs (two earned) on one hit and five base on balls.  He also struck out four.

Atlanta?s Josh Donaldson brought rain with his three RBIs.

Jays opening starter Wilmer Font took the loss.

This game saw the the debut of young Blue Jay prospect pitcher T.J. Zeuch.  While he didn?t throw any no hitter, he allowed two runs on three hits in four innings and struck out four.  Certainly not too shabby for one?s intro into the major leagues.

The Jays are off tomorrow and return Thursday to play the Rays in Tampa Bay.
