The Blue Jays (55-85) visit Tropicana Field for a four-game series against the Tampa Bay Rays (82-59).

The Tampa Bay Rays are second in the A.L. East 10 GBL New York Yankees.  However, the Rays have the advantage for the first spot in the A.L. WC.  The race is very tight between Tampa Bay, Cleveland, Oakland and yes, the Boston Red Sox.  The Red Sox, who are third in the A.L. East division, are  5.5 GB for the second WC spot.

The Blue Jays lost both games to the Braves in their most recent road series.

It appears to be Cavan Biggio?s turn to shine for the month as he?s racking up the numbers sporting a 1.210 OPS, four RBIs, and .318 BA.  Those numbers are for the last seven games.

Anthony Kay, the pitching prospect garnered in the Marcus Stroman trade from the Mets, may make his MLB debut.

We should also see the return of Lourdes Gurriel Jr., fresh off the IL.

GO JAYS GO!

Jays lose 6-4 to the Rays Thursday night.

Bo Bichette had three RBIs (all in the form of home runs ? a solo, and a two-run shot).  Vladdy Guerrero Jr., was the other contributor who?s RBI gave him 60 on the year.

Jays starter Trent Thornton lasted four innings allowing three runs (two unearned) before giving way to the bullpen, where with the score tied at 4-4, the Rays went ahead and stayed there in the seventh on a solo home run.  Reliever Buddy Boshers was the losing pitcher.

Positive pitching notes despite a 5-3 loss to the Rays.

That?s the Jays Anthony Kay who made his pitching debut yesterday against the Rays, and a place in the MLB record books.
Kay went five innings, allowed two runs, and struck out eight.

The Rays swept the Jays in this series with an 8-3 win Sunday.

Jays starter Jacob Waguespack had a rough outing on the mound as the Rays ran roughshod over Waguespack for six runs in four innings.  He took the loss and is now 4-4 on the year.

The Boston Red Sox (76-68) come to the Rogers Centre for a three-game series against the Blue Jays (55-89).

The parting of the ways between the Red Sox organization and now former President Dave Dombrowski, is very telling.  Boston, not too many weeks ago, was chasing in on the second-place Tampa Bay Rays as well as attempting in keeping their WC hopes alive.

Now, the Bosox find themselves completely out of the playoff picture ?8 GB ? for the WC and all hopes to see their team make it to the post-season have gone down the drain for Bostonians.  Exactly what does Dombrowski have to do with it.  Plenty.
Perhaps the fact that Boston retains among the highest payroll in the majors and that Dombrowski refused to adhere to more modern day analytics and assessment practices, all the while the team has not shown it has what it takes down the stretch.  Tough place, Boston, that is.

As for the Blue Jays, they came off being swept four straight in their most recent road series at the hands of the Tampa Bay Rays.  The Jays offence sure didn?t help matters.  In fact, Toronto?s offence has gone strangely ?silent? ever since the Jays were no-hit by Verlander as week or so ago.

The Jays would be well on their way to 100 losses as there are more than enough games to lose to reach it (not that we want them to)!

Lourdes Gurriel Jr.., comes off the IL and Luke Maille may do the same.

It would do the Jays some good to snatch a few wins from these miserable Bosox.

GO JAYS GO!

Losing streaks be damned and stats be praised.

With a 4-3 win over the Bosox (thank you Ken Giles), the Blue Jays broke out of their seven-game losing streak, and are close to setting another record stat ? they lead the majors (54%) in games they?ve won  & runs they?ve scored via home runs.

Homers by McGuire, Tellez, and Biggio, some excellent infield defence, plus a staunch bullpen, were all contributing factors in the win.  The Jays trailed at different times in the game but bounced back thanks to the solo homers.

Jays starter T.J. Zeuch ran into a little trouble early on when he was tagged with the three runs.  The bullpen took over from the fourth inning onward, and shut down the Red Sox the rest of the way.
Justin Shafer got the win, while  Law, Romano, and Mayza got holds.
Closer Giles, a little shaky at first, settled down and got the job done.

The Blue Jays defeated Boston 8-0 on a sound performance on the mound and in the offence last night.

Home runs by Hernandez, Tellez, plus a couple of RBIs from guys like Guerrero Jr., &  Grichuk, the Jays proved aplenty for the Red Sox pitching and the like.

Wilmer Font opened but it was Trent Thornton who became the star of the show.  For the fifth time this season, Thornton threw several hitlessi innings.
This time he had the Bosox swinging at air, striking out seven in the process in five innings of work for the win.

The Jays bullpen once again kept it going with Adam and finally Ryan Tepera to close out the win.

Missed catches, lousy throws, slipping here, there...what a mess!

That pretty well described the Jays defence last night in a 7-4 loss to the Red Sox.  Toronto still wins the series taking two out of three.
The Jays errors helped the Bosox on the scoreboard.

Jays starter Clay Bucholtz didn?t fare all that well on the mound allowing four runs on seven hits in four innings.  Not that it was such a bad performance but coupled with the bullpen allowing the rest of the runs, no Blue Jay looked too good defence-wise. Oh, well...

The New York Yankees (97-51) come to Toronto to play the Blue Jays (57-90) at the Rogers Centre for a three-game series.

The Yankees, injuries and all, still occupy first space in the A.L. East division.  The Yankees sport the best w/l record in the league, pursued closely by the Houston Astros and the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Even with the injuries, the New York machine keeps rolling along.  The Yankees are in no danger to concede their first-place crown in their division to the second-place and very distant (10 GB) Tamap Bay Rays.

The Blue Jays finally snapped out of their seven-game losing funk by taking two out of three from the Red Sox in their most recent series.  The Jays bats, for some mysterious reason, came to life blasting away as usual with the long balls.  The last game of the series which was a 7-4 Boston win, illustrated some concerns with the Jays defence, after having played it brilliantly in their first two wins.  (*head scratching*)

It appears to be Randall Grichuk?s turn to own the month.  He?s been a bit on a tear lately.  Grichuk, in spite of a lowly BA (.233) and a rather mediocre OPS (.723), still leads the Jays in RBIs (66) as well as in HRs (25).

Toronto is trying to avoid the 100 games losses marker, and with fifteen or so games remaining, the Jays have a chance to avoid reaching it.  It depends though largely on how they play.

Will the Jays be cast in the role of spoilers in this series?  Should be interesting to watch.

GO JAYS GO!

That?s more like it!

Maybe the Yankees got spooked on Friday the 13th or maybe it was the Zombies of Zombie Night at the Rogers Centre.  Or maybe, nawww...it was...Bo!

Yes, Bo, that Bo the one with history on his side.  And plenty of broken records to boot.  He did it again, this time hitting a walk-off home run in extra innings (12th) to become the youngest Blue Jay ever in accomplishing the feat!
The Jays won 6-5.

Jays starter Anthony Kay ran into plenty of trouble in the fifth with Toronto leading 3-0.  New York scored five runs off him and took the lead 5-4.  The bullpen shut the Yankees down the rest of the way giving the Jays a chance to tie it up in the seventh, before Bichette?s walk-off winner.

Wilmer Font, pitching in relief, got the win.

Leave it to T.J.to figure ?em out.

A day after the Jays & Jacob Waguespack got burned by the Yankees 13-3, this Sunday afternoon Toronto was determined to win the rubber match.  And they did.

Led by Randal Grichuk?s four RBIs (which included two homer runs) and some timely pitching from Font and the bullpen, the Blue Jays earned their victory and thus took two out of three from New York.

Jays starter T.J. Zeuch, in spite of the three runs (two earned), struck out five, and was the winner (his first-ever MLB career win).
Giles closed out with the save.

The Jays are off Monday but will resume playing against the Orioles in Baltimore on Tuesday.

The Blue Jays (59-91) venture to Oriole Park at Camden Yards for a three-game series against the Balitomore Orioles (49-101).

Baltimore owns the second-worst record in the majors.  They have joined the 100 club of teams with 100+ losses this season.

If the Jays embark on a losing streak, they?ll soon join, too.

Expect to see Lourdes Gurriel Jr., back at his usual spot in the outfield.

The Jays Grichuk continues to go on a tear, leading the team in both HRs (28) & RBIs (71).

It has been reported that reliever Tim Mayza is out indefinitely and is to undergo Tommy John surgery.  He is likely to miss most of next season as well.
In his place will be Thomas Pannone, who will once again strive for the opportunity to showcase himself more to the team in the role of reliever.

GO JAYS GO!

Big night for Cavan Biggio.

Biggio hit for the cycle with four RBIs in lifting the Blue Jays to an 8-5 win over the O?s.

Biggio became the third Blue Jay in cycle history.
Randall Grichuk and Justin Smoak also whacked solo home runs.

Jays starter Trent Thornton, who was preceded by Ryan Tepera, allowed one run and struck out four in five innings.
The win however went to reliever Derek Law.

Wowza!

Randall Grichuk?s Grand Slammer gave the Blue Jays the lead in that six-run ninth inning ? and what would turn out to be the victory.

Reliever Derek Law got himself out of a jam with Baltimore?s tying & winning runs on the bases, but thankfully he got himself out of it to preserve the win 11-10 for the Jays over the O?s.

T?oscar Hernandez? three RBIs along with contributions by Bichette, Biggio, and several other Jay hitters.

Jays starter Clay Bucholtz found himself in a heap as the Orioles ran him for seven runs in three innings.
Winning pitcher was Brock Stewart while Derek Law closed out to earn the save.

Despite the Blue Jays come-from-behind victory Wednesday, it came at a price ? Vladdy Guerrero Jr. injured.

While it?s too early to speculate on the extent of the injury, it appeared to be upper body.  Vladdy collided with the Orioles second baseman on the play.

Another big night for the offence.

That is Biggio, Guerrero, Gurriel to name a few.  Biggio and Gurriel with homers, and plenty of RBIs to boot from the three.  Good overall hitting, as the Jays came up with a six-run seventh inning that put the game away towards an 8-4 win Thursday night.
Toronto swept Baltimore 3 zip.

Jays had Wilmer Font open on the mound, and then gave way to Anthony Kay who pitched four innings, allowed two runs and struck out three in earning the win.

The Blue Jays (62-91) visit The Big Apple in a three-game series against the New York Yankees (100-54).

The Yankees this week clinched the A.L. with their 100th win.  It?s for the second consecutive season that the Bronx Bombers compiled win #100.
New York at present sports the second-best w/l record in the majors.  The Houston Astros take the honours for first.

The Blue Jays come off having swept the Orioles in Baltimore.
Randall Grichuk?s home run in Game 2 of that series was his fifth straight.

If the Jays can keep up the offensive onslaught as they had done against the O?s, as well as maintain steady pitching in all areas, they?ve got a good chance of winning some here.

GO JAYS GO!

Win #5!

That?s right.  The Blue Jays just upped their winning streak to five games by defeating the NY Yankees last night, thanks to Justin Smoak?s two-run homer in the seventh inning.

Danny Jansen (solo home run) and Guerrero Jr., drove in the other runs.

Jays starter Jacob Waguespack pitched solidly despite having given up three runs, but struck out six in five innings of work.
The bullpen did a stellar job in relief, as did Giles, with save #21 on the year to close out the ninth.
Winning pitcher was Josh Adam.  Holds went to Boshers, Gaviglio, & Law.

On the other hand Vlad has been in the Jays organization since 2016.  What the hell is our development system doing?
