2022-23 NHL Thread

Not quite NHL, but I know we've touched on this kind of thing in game day threads, so just throwing out as a discussion point, but a few changes around penalty rules in the European Champions Hockey League next season.

https://www.championshockeyleague.com/en/news/chl-introduces-on-ice-rule-innovations-for-2023-24-season

Minor penalties dealt the same as major: a team which caused a minor penalty will remain shorthanded even if the opposing team score a goal

Serving delayed penalties: a minor penalty will be served even if a goal is scored while a delayed penalty is pending

Shorthander erases current minor penalty: if a shorthanded team score, the minor penalty against will end

So I wasn't sure about this, but I've quite enjoyed these changes. The PP even if a team scores on a delayed penalty i think is the "best" of them.

In one of the games recently Belfast scored shorthanded, which also meant the oppositions PP was ended, and the crowd response was amazing. So I enjoyed that, but I'm not sure it's really changed the game itself as to how teams PK as yet (assuming the idea is to encourage the PK to try and score). Maybe something like removing icing from a PK would be a better change?

I imagine someone will be crunching the stats to see how many times teams score more than once per penalty, but I haven't seen it happen in any of the games I've seen as yet.
