Hope everyone enjoyed the Daniel Alfredsson Tribute Show.

Made me sick just to see him wearing the C in this game.
Would have been nice to see the boys hold the over/under in check. At least I tripled up by Team Leafs winning.

Can't wait to see the highlights of lupes and phil's contribution.

I've always liked Alfredsson. He's one of my favourite players outside of the Leafs.

Since I don't really follow the Sens, I obviously didn't know much about Alfredsson's personal life. The coverage leading up to this game on him while a bit much (to say the least I think) was still very informative. Seems a great person and I've gained a good amount of respect for him. Now having said that, I'm full of all things Ottawa... So glad this thing is over.

Can you imagine what it would be like if you were pumped with Ottawa propaganda the whole hockey season?

I know! It might be maddening enough to drive me towards chatting online with their fans and stuff.

Cheeky!

Chara was +7.  That is why the bruins are so good.

Brian Elliott had a GAA of 18.00.  Is he finally crashing back down to Earth?

He got lit up all weekend

It sure would be interesting if this game shattered his confidence and his play nosedived.

Wasn't that the reason given for some shaky play from Price post-ASG a few seasons ago?

What's wrong with you?  :o It was in Ottawa, he's the highest scoring player they have ever had, and despite our rivalry with Ottawa, couldn't
you turn it off for a meaningless game? The guy is total class and has
represented that city the same. It's obvious the other players hold him in such regard as well.

I'd never cheer for him when they play the Leafs but really....

Total class eh? Darcy Tucker might have a different view on him. I don't just start respecting someone for a day when I didn't anytime in the past.

Ottawa's choosing to keep Redden instead of Chara has to be among the most boneheaded decisions in sports history.

In hindsight, certainly. At the time I recall a number of people thinking chara looked a little slow and were wondering how well he would adjust to the new NHL.  I mean, no one expected he'd be "bad" but perhaps not quite as good as prelockout.  But yeah, they kinda got that one wrong....was that trade the end of the incredible sens dynasty?

Not a trade, he was let walk.  And we went to the finals after he left (though Redden was a non-factor in that run).

But yeah, it was coming out of the lockout, Buffalo was tearing up the league with a bunch of speedy midgets.  The common thinking then was that puckmoving and speed was more important than size, and Buffalo made Chara look really bad in the playoffs.

Seriously though... You've been very lucky to have him in your organization.

Fergies Pogge over Rask is right up there too

Yes, letting go of a perennial All-Star, Norris trophy calibre defenceman who is an integral part of a Cup winning team and keeping a player who was out of the league a few years later, is just a tad more boneheaded than choosing one prospect over another, the successful one at this point having never been a #1 goaltender long enough to accomplish much of anything yet.

Definitely up there in the annals of sporting history.

I was thinking last night that there just isn't any way to get these guys to play "for real" in an All-Star game... Nor do I like the notion of having it count for anything as it does in baseball. I've completely accepted this is just of an exhibition and marketing thing for the NHL. So, why fight it? In fact what about doing a total 180 and go the other way - making it MORE of a display? My reasoning for this is it's just too boring as it stands now...

The draft - Maybe team captains shouldn't do the drafting. What about a celebrity or a contest winner? Kids are always good...Perhaps involve HoFers or something. I also think the bottom 4 guys should just be drawn from a hat. - No more Kessel/Couture situations.

The game - More props? Maybe some creative rule changes? I don't know... I'm open to suggestions to spice this up...

Thoughts?

How about this to turn this into a real hockey game?
Go back to East vs. West format. The winning conference in the All-Star game gets home ice advantage in the Stanley Cup finals regardless of the standing of the teams involved.

No way, man... I don't want my game 7 based on some All-Star game.

I guess the Rask trade ranks 2nd now... Redden over Chara was way worse...
