Asking price for Tyler Bozak appears to be a second round pick

Not sure I believe it, but, whatever.

The Coyotes were actually a team I really thought would make sense for Bozak. Since the deadline they've lost Vermette, Gagner, and Arcobello. I know they'll be tanking and all but somebody needs to play centre for them. And I figured they'd have to go the trade route for that since I can't really see players lining up to sign there for a bunch of reasons now.

Vermette went back, so they might not be interested in Bozak any more.

Oh yeah? I missed that, thanks. That's pretty surprising to me, he didn't have a great playoffs but I still figured teams would be interested in him. Not a ton of good centres on the market.

It happened in the last 20 minutes.

According to Mirtle (who doesn't usually jump into the rumours-game), the Leafs recently turned down an offer for Bozak:

That really only leaves two other members of Toronto?s long-standing ?core? left to ponder: Tyler Bozak and Joffrey Lupul.

Both would like to stay, or at least that was the sense before Kessel was dealt on Wednesday. The Leafs have been getting interest and even offers on Bozak now for a while, with the inquiring Arizona Coyotes the best fit until they signed Antoine Vermette.

(One neutral party familiar with what the Leafs were offered for Bozak said they were surprised they hadn?t taken the deal.)

You know, nobody really talks about JVR.

Why should they? He's only 26, had a reasonable contract, skates well and can score. I don't see why he shouldn't still be with the leafs  when they start winning again.

I'm not sure that now's the best time to trade him either. He's got 3 years left on his deal then he's a UFA. My plan would be to play out this season, collect a few more assets through the draft (with hopefully a top-3 pick in there), and then maybe use JVR as trade bait next summer in a Dougie Hamilton/Brandon Saad-type trade where a team can't afford a good young RFA and needs to move him.

I suppose one reason to consider it might be because you think that his value is bound to drop if separated from Kessel. I think he's a good enough player to be reasonably productive on his own but he might be more valuable as a 30 ish goal, 60 some odd point player than a 20 goal, 45 point player.

We talk a lot about how Kessel carried Bozak but yeah I think he certainly helped JVR put up some points too. It didn't happen often but when JVR was taken away from Kessel I wasn't a big fan of the results.

I don't think many of us will be big fans of the results of having Kessel 'taken away' from the Leafs next year.

Phil will probably score 50 and make us weep, the best pure sniper we have had since Mogilney.  I just wonder what he could have done with a Sundin in his prime.

I think Kessel was being financially rewarded to put up points, not wins.  If my friend and co-worker was getting millions to score, I'd probably help him as well.  Now with Kessel gone, can Bozak become something more?  Think he might have all the tools to be a pretty good two-way player.  Taking away the financial incentive to put up points and adding Mike Babcock and friends, he might become a very attractive 3rd line center for a contending team at the trade deadline.

I think that he's likely at his highest value right now, and I don't see him improving his production this coming season for the same reason that others here have stated: no Kessel.

Grab another young high-ceiling prospect and a pick, and clear up some cap space.

Then I think that people are looking at this wrong.  Kessel is a great player.  There is no doubting that.  There is also no doubting that keeping him was not going to result in a cup.  That is the end goal.  Management needs to make the decisions that they feel will lead to that goal.

Kessel is now the same as Ovechkin, Stamkos, Kane, Grioux, etc.  A great player that plays on another team.

I wouldn't be disappointed to see JVR and Bozak go down the toilet without Kessel.  Sure it might hurt the trade value, but it would be awesome to get in some serious losing.  Hoping they don't play any of these young guys either... I want so-so vets in the line-up and get into a good position to win the 1st overall pick.  I look at Montreal, they sucked got Carey Price... but instead of dipping into the good talent, they had to win.  Ended up with David Fischer the next season.  If they could of repeated the previous season... they would of had Kessel and possibly another Stanley Cup.

The Habs didn't suck to get Carey Price. They got lucky in the 30 team lockout lottery. The year before they got to the second round of the playoffs.

This is where I'm at with JvR.  I want the assets his trade should return.

I would personally hold on to JVR for no reason other than he's one of the only players on the team I enjoyed watching last year.
