Avalanche @ Leafs - Oct. 8th, 7:00pm - TSN, SN 590

What on earth is Ranger doing taking a shift with 2 minutes left? Randy's gone down to 4 defencemen in the past in these situations.

Screw off Bozak.  He's not a 1st line player.

That behind the back pass to JVR was kinda neat. Although I'm sure it was pure luck.

Yeah he gets props for that, that was nice.  So many unfinished plays so far this year.  Somehow money on breakaways though.

Hahaha the Leafs actually win a face off and then everyone takes off up the ice leading to a forced 50 foot pass to nobody. That's just stupid.

Sometimes Randy Carlyle is a really bad coach.  The Leafs got outplayed again tonight and looked pretty bad in the 3rd period once they went down a goal.  Bad lines and heaven forbid Bozak ever be taken off the 1st line.

Bolland with the empty net?

I hope the media eviscerates Randy. He absolutely deserves 110 percent of the blame here. Failing to adjust to changing conditions is one thing, but when your line combos are totally indefensible to begin with, it takes a special kind of crazy to keep trying the same thing the entire game.

3rd period ice-time among defencemen:

Phaneuf - 9:37
Franson - 9:08
Ranger - 6:43
Rielly - 5:42
Gardiner - 4:38
Gunnarsson - 4:18

Unacceptable.

The only way he's going to get better is if he plays. If he doesn't get any better, only then will he not play.

That was a pretty winnable game.  Bernier kept them in, but the rest of the team put in a 3/4-assed effort at best.  When a team plays that poorly across the board, it's on the coach.

So we should be getting kuly and clarkson back around the same time?  that will be neat.  maybe then we could generate some SUSTAINED pressure in the o-zone.

This is probably going to make me (more?) unpopular, but I like how Carlyle is handling Kadri. Making him earn his ice time again, like he did last year. The only thing I disagree with is giving Orr more ice time ahead of Bodie. I have no problem with Carlyle asking Orr to go out and play a regular 4th line shift and not fight, but he and Bodie are similar players and Bodie is clearly the better of the two. Granted, he fought at a really bad time in the game and he was likely stapled to the bench because of that.

A coach like Carlyle is going to give a lot more leeway to veterans than he is to younger players. Kadri is out there trying to make things happen and that's good, up to a point. Carlyle wants Kadri to learn to not force the play, and to make the safe play when he doesn't have any options. He still hasn't learned that yet, and that's why he isn't getting prime opportunities.
