Ben Scrivens

Ouch for the Oilers and Noddy, how many first round picks are these guys going to need before they become winners. Hall will probably be going grey leading the team of 22 first round picks before they change.

And Carlyle thought he had perfected the rope-a-dope strategy of allowing 50 shots a game...please...

.937 SV% on the year between LA and Edmonton and coming off a .915 SV% with Toronto last year.  I still don't understand why we had to eat cap space on that trade.

Especially when one considers the fact that we already had a #1, so it wasn't like Nonis was over a barrel like "he who shall not be named" when the Raycroft disaster went down.

I remember Lombardi saying that they wouldn't have been able to take on Frattin and Scrivens' whole salaries without Toronto retaining some. It seemed it was necessary to get the deal done from Toronto's perspective as there were likely other clubs interested who had deals on the table that worked financially for the Kings.

So if retaining 500k in cap dollars for 1 year was the difference between acquiring Bernier or not, I think it was the right call to do it.

I remember it being said, but I don't believe it.  LA has more cap space than the Leafs.

LA would be right at the salary cap if it wasn't for the trade. I don't know what their cap situation was like at the start of the season, but clearly that $500k was pretty valuable to them.

so is he going to be the starter or an expensive back up?

Unless the starter is a 60+ game a year vezina candidate type then 2.3 million really shouldn't be considered all that expensive for someone who'll play 30 or so games a year.

Yeah, I mean 2.3 million is probably what you pay to get a decent 3rd liner these days.  Even at 30 games that is 1800 minutes of extremely important hockey for a team.  A 3rd liner is likely playing about 12-15 minutes a night, so even at the higher average of 15 minutes that is 1230 minutes of contribution over an 82 games season.

That strikes me as silly to value paying a 3rd liner 2 million over a good backup goaltender.
