Blackhawks @ Maple Leafs - Oct. 16th, 7:00pm - SN, TSN 1050

I think the important thing is that Matthews took two crosschecks to the back and Perry hit Matthews late after he sent the puck up the ice from the defensive zone all in the 3rd period.  Good thing Ryan Reaves stops this crap.

It's real early but through 3 games Domi hasn't done much of anything. Although that goes for a lot of Leafs right now

Three games means very little but early on:

- Minten looks ready to go back to Junior hockey.
- There really isn't good natural chemistry between Bertuzzi and Matthews/Marner
- Domi looks really bad.  I'm really not seeing any good decision making out of him so far (including the preseason)
- Nylander and Matthews are easily the best two players out of the gates
- McCabe really hasn't rebounding from a terrible Florida series
- Giordano needs to stop throwing the puck on net.  It goes 10 feet wide and nowhere near a guy able to deflect his shots
- I'm sure every team does it a lot too but this seemed like a typical Leafs game.  Team the Leafs should clearly beat.  A goaltender with terrible NHL stats and the Leafs make it easy on him.

To that I'd add that we may have overestimated Knies's ability to step into the lineup straight out of college.

But it's too soon to know any of this.

That fourth line seems made up.  I mean the 4th line left winger looks like the phonetic spelling of Tkachuk, and the centre seems to be a character from Lord of the Rings.

Who?

Katchouk and Entwistle on Chicago.

Sorry, I was trying to make a joke - John Entwistle from The Who.

It feels like Bertuzzi is always just a little bit off from where Matthews and Marner want him to be. They've had a lot of near-chances I think. I'll chaulk that one up to early season stuff for now.

Perry on the ice Reaves on the bench. Good job Sheldon.

Am I understanding correctly? With a minute or so left in the game, you want......Reaves on the ice?

If I?m not mistaken Perry was on the ice with the game out of reach. Perfect opportunity to send him out and see if dips77t or Foligno wanted to answer the bell. After Perry?s goal and mocking the crowd someone should have put him in his place. WTF did they sign him for?

Meh. Perry's 38 years old and has been doing this his whole career. He's not going to be put in his place. He's also very unlikely to fight Reaves. Why would he?

Keefe: my message to Domi was to take good care of the puck offensively so you don?t have to play so much defense

Domi: aye, aye, coach!
Proceeds to skate beautifully into the OZ with the puck, ignore linemates in open lanes, and shoot into the nearest shin pad softly.

Domi: Alas

I think this game just further cements that this team will only go as far as Matthews can take them.  He had 8 shots last night, and no goals.  The 40% shooting percentage was bound to fall off at some point.

I agree with pretty much everything here.  Minten was a nice training camp story, but let's get Holmberg back up and let Minten develop more in junior.

Of the new guys, Domi has been particularly bad.

I was at the game last night...I'm going to tell you that no one looked good.

The only thing of note was that the Hawks defenseman Vlasic looks like a young Chris Pronger...all legs.
