Maybe but the Leafs have been chasing StLouis in the dzone all period...that's when penalties happen (or get called anyway)
 
It’s amazing what having big shots from the point on a powerplay can do though

Sure and the first period was all in the St Louis zone. I don't dispute most of the Leads penalty calls this year but they aren't getting an even whistle
 
The PP is so telegraphed. Enter the zone. Pass to the half boards and the puck turns into a scrum in the corner. Stop it

He doesn't seem to have the same urgency as last year. Seems to be coasting a lot. Maybe the new contract is weighing him down.
 
Several folks on here have said it's going to take 20 games or so before they get the hang of Berube's style. I think you're seeing that. Matthews is getting almost zero good looks in the games I've seen.

But beyond that what's really dragging them down is the PP. When the Leafs PP dries up (see under: April) it's Mojave Time.
 
Again, I keep telling myself "it's not even 20 games yet" but man, this mostly looks like the same movie I've seen before. Non functioning PP, completely ineffective bottom 6, dzone coverage sporadic.
