Like I said at that start of the playoffs, the only way I'll be disappointed is if we get blown out in the 1st round.  Going out in 5 would qualify.

You shouldn't be disappointed though. Boston is a really good team. They are better than Washington was last year. Its a learning experience for the core and for management as well. A great regular season doesn't mean anything. The team still needs to stay the course with the rebuild.

Well said.  Still, those first 2 games were really deflating.
It is what it is tho. We all know the weak link is our D and Boston exposed it. Well exploited it lol

On another note, I managed to grab some free tickets to the game tonight.

I believe the Leafs have lost the last 5 or 6 games I attended. I'm going to commit the gambler's fallacy and assume that means they're due for a win.

If you ever... Never tell us again about scoring free tickets.  You and Pleks scored tonight in the loss!

The regular season really doesn?t mean anything when you finish 3rd and don?t get home ice advantage.

I'm going out on a limb and calling a win on Saturday.  If they can do that, then I'm good with whatever happens after.

I think the Leafs have pretty firmly established that the seeding format isn't the biggest issue here.

Darn.

Basically:  Bad goal from Freddy + Matthews was invisible = Loss

What happened to Bergeron?

Marner had it going and I liked Brown's play but there were almost no chances for the leafs outside of Marner's line (though there did seem to be some decent possession broadly speaking).

How can the Bruins be good without him?  It looks like they have 2 good wingers and a 41-year-old Chara.  That shouldn't be enough to beat the leafs.

Let's hope Kadri can breathe some life back into this team.  Not a lot of fight shown here in the 3rd.
It's over. Crowd will pump up Bruins, they'll come out flying, Andersen can't stop anything but routine shots, we're done

To the Leafs' D's credit, they played much better at home.  But upgrades are definitely in order, and I expect at least one forward we would rather not see traded is going to have to go to make it happen.

I?m not sure how the team develops with this defence.  No more high draft picks to get a true number 1.  Zaitsev appears not to be what management thought and we know what Rielly and Gardiner are ? decent but not number ones.  I see long terms issues here.  We are going to be the Caps of the next 5 to 7 years.

Issues are issues. I?d rather lose to Boston in the second round than the first.

Leafs management knew going into the playoffs this year the team wasn't quite ready for a real shot at the prize. That was pretty clear when they didn't make any big deals going into it. Sticking with the plan, perhaps a few solid pick ups or call ups next season and then the season after that going all in for a shot. At least thats what it feels like the plan is to me. Im of the opinion that in 2 years time this squad could be a real powerhouse with a genuine shot at winning the cup. This year was just about gaining a little more experience.

Yeah of course. But it was really just Boston shoving how much better they are than the Leafs in our faces. It sucks because it's the Bruins, but credit where it's due. Boston easily matched all 4 of our lines and their D is way better. Then there's Rask. I'm not going to blame Andersen...he wasn't good, but he wasn't horrible either. I'm not even going to say Rask is better, just that even if the Leafs manage to get through the match ups and by their defence, they STILL have to beat Rask. For getting out of the first round, Boston was the worst possible opponent for the Leafs.

If they'd seeded the East 1-8 regardless of division the Leafs first round opponent would have been Pittsburgh. I feel reasonably confident in saying they wouldn't have met up with Boston, or anyone else, in the second round.

I'm not so sure that's going to be necessary - and, if Dubas does indeed take the helm, I don't think it'll happen. More ice time for Dermott, an upgrade on Polak (like, possibly, Liljagren) and a little less ice for Zaitsev (who I think would benefit from having less responsibility - I feel like he's be a lot better as more of a ~18 minute a night guy than a ~22 minute a night guy) combined with some better defensive play and support from the forwards could go a long way.

Hardly. D can't play a 2 on 1. Couldn't beat Rask. It's been the same stuff all year. D isn't good enough. We're not done yet but there's a big bill to climb for sure. Kadri back on Saturday.

Everytime a saw a pass go over to right D with a good chance for a play it was Hainsey on his back hand and I remembered we have no right shot D
