Bruins @ Maple Leafs - Dec. 2nd, 7:00pm - SN, Fan 590

Their lacklustre back checking by 34, and 88 in OT periods is mind boggling. You have to be hard on the puck not letting them have it with no pushback. Puck control is key.

I'll look at the positives: Matthews looked terrific, Domi got the monkey off his back.

Willy has fallen back to earth.

Willy's kind of stunk the last few games.  It's hard to play like he did for 82 straight games but effort level has been pretty miserable for a few games.

He hasn't been good since coming back from Sweden. Tonight's OT was a special kind of horrible though. His effort and decision making was off the charts bad..so bad that Keefe put Gregor out with 34 for a shift in OT

He's been fabulous in OT til now.  I'll cut him some slack but he does have tendencies that need to be watched and managed.

I'm disappointed that both Tavares and Nylander didn't get back into the play after that happened but I'm mostly disappointed with Nylander.

Really. Watching the replay of Tavares skating back it was almost like he thought it was over. Get on your high horse and get back. Like I said it was from a few of them lazy without the puck. Matthews was no better back checking in the OT.

Playing the top of the lineup too much: 11/22 games going to OT and they get a majority of those minutes. They win more games for us than they lose, but there?s a point of diminishing returns if we can make at least one more line.

There's no slack when you put out an effort like that.. his guy scored the winner at the net while he barely crossed the blue line from centre ice, after giving the puck away for the 3rd time in OT. There's no excuse for that. It's really disappointing seeing that from him because he's been so good this year in all zones.

That?s where the issue lies with this team no accountability. I know the game is over but Keefe should be blasting these guys when they pull s$$t like that. I don?t care who you are. Plain and simple it?s unacceptable.

Also I missed chunks of the game did Marchand even get hit? Curious if anyone pasted him.

No.  Reaves got a cheap penalty for a hit but otherwise did nothing and established again that he has no business being in the lineup.

Reaves was on the ice against Marchand for 9 seconds. He had 4 hits, 1 SOG, in 6 mins of ice time. Not defending him but I don't know what people are expecting. No one on Boston or most teams is going to fight him. He tried to stir it up once in front of the Bruins net and as soon as they saw it was him, they did nothing. He hit a Bruin, shook him up and got penalized for it which was weak.

As for Ratboy getting hit, only recall Rielly putting him on his ass once and Jarnkrok giving him a jab in the face.

I've noticed quite a few bad habits creep back into Nylander's game. The habits that have driven fans and coaches nuts throughout his career. If you watch after shots, he's watching and expecting every one of his shots to go in. He actually stops moving his feet, stands up straight and glides out of position.
I was fearful that he would go into a funk after the point streak was over.

I think there is some explanation -similar to one he offered previously. He was gassed.

He played the last 2 mins of the 3rd plus 2:40 of OT. In the last 7 minutes: 4:40 (67% of the ice time during that stretch).

If one tries to play ice time like that - particularly 3 on 3, they can hit a wall. Brain is oxygen deprived - not thinking so well. Muscles oxygen deprived & weaker. Coordination isn't as sharp - more prone to falling. etc.

The pause between the end of the game and OT helped. So did the timeout. But still, trying to get him to produce 20% of his ice time at the top end in the last 10% of the game has risks that a player will run out of gas.

Marchand & Pasternak played slightly more than 3 minutes during that same stretch. Any wonder why they might be fresher and less prone to falling down?

Over the same time period, Marner played 3 mins. Matthews 3.5 mins. Tavares 3.7 mins - all of them a minute or more less than Nylander.

Nylander hasn't forgotten how to play entirely. Caught up in the game, he may have 'forgotten' how to get off the ice. It is not the first time. He bears some responsibility.

Reeves could have tried to start something with Frederic. I for one am pretty disappointed that there was basically zero response. Opposition still gets free passes to our net far too often. I think not landing Zadorov is a big missed opportunity

Team is all talk. I for one thought someone would paste him every opportunity. I've said this for years it's almost like there is an unwritten rule as far as hitting the POS.

I absolutely agree with what you?ve posted but that pretty much sums up why he?s a waste of a roster spot and cap space.

I have no issue with the play of the team last night. It?s one of those shit happens games. They played well and it didn?t work out.

I know this may sound stupid but I?d rather see a game like that and they lose then that stupid game against the kraken where fell ass backwards into a win.

But that's exactly the problem.  He doesn't really contribute to the offensive or defensive side of the game and it's hard to be a deterrent when no one will fight you anyway.  Reaves best case is a handful of hits and forcing the other 11 forwards to play more.

Agree. He can totally do his job and it's still not good enough to warrant a roster spot.
