I have no issue with the play of the team last night. It?s one of those shit happens games. They played well and it didn?t work out.

I know this may sound stupid but I?d rather see a game like that and they lose then that stupid game against the kraken where fell ass backwards into a win.

That captures a bunch of my feelings.

I felt better about them losing this game than I did about them beating the Kraken because of how they played. They were competitive against a good team vs lousy against a weaker team.

Only the Habs have fewer regulation wins. They have slightly more goals against than they have scored. They're currently a wild card team only 2 pts ahead of 9th place (out of the playoffs) in their conference. That is not where a team with as much talent as they have should be and it feels like they're a little lucky to be there. One more injury or series of bad bounces and they could be into a serious slump into a position out of the playoffs. Even when their defense was 'healthy' they were not good defensively. As currently constructed, it is hard to see a deep playoff run. They were supposed to be a Cup contender. Currently, they're contending to make the playoffs.

There's something wrong and I don't think I can point to one thing.

To me it feels like there wasn?t a coherent vision of what the team was meant to be, rather they just signed players and hoped to shove them into a role. It was just a bit rushed. For probably obvious reasons.

Whether you liked or agreed with him, at least you could see a strategy behind the moves made the last few years or see why certain players had been picked up.

As much as the FA signings were Brad's doing, the general point the team is at is still mostly Dubas. We can debate Reaves/Klingberg all we want and we might have a mulligan on Klingberg anyhow, but this is what happens when you're capped out every year and the players you had for cheap move on for bigger contracts a la Hyman/Bunting etc. They tried on Dumba, Gudas, ROR and swung out, but still got the big fish in Bertuzzi who hasn't looked great and neither has Matthews or Marner for large chunks of the year. If the top two lines are consistent we aren't having this conversation.

Ya I agree with you and have been saying the same thing for a long time. What do we expect when like you say you are capped out. Dubas caved in to these guys when they hadn't won anything as a team and regular season stats are great but when you disappear when it matters most I'm sorry you don't deserve a raise when quite frankly you're paid handsomely in regards to others in the league that you're equivalent to. Love watching our core but for me too inconsistent, too many nights off and I don't expect 3 points a night from them but at least don't mail it in. We have seen that far too often. Always go back to Game 3 against the Panthers when our backs were against the wall and 16 & 34 were MIA. I hope Treliving doesn't give up even more of our prospect pool or drafts because Dubas did a fine job of that and to be honest our farm system and prospects isn't that good. Question is what do you do? Without mortgaging the future someone has to go.I wouldn't be against some sort of retool because as most of you know I think this core is flawed.
