Pierre Engvall - the best Leaf at shooting into opposition goalies crests.... The best since Jonas Hoglund.

I have a lot of patience with Pierre but his game will not get it done in the playoffs.  He's another guy I'd move if the return is good.

He disappeared in the playoffs last year. I don't expect any different this year. There are players that have that drive, nastiness, grit stuff you need to some extent come playoffs. Then there are players who don't have that element in their game and some will never have it. That's Dubas' job to find guys that have that in their game. We don't have many of them players. We'll see come playoff time if anything has changed.

Refs don't call a thing.  Player gets upset.  NHL commentary blames player for being upset instead of officiating for not doing their job.  I really don't get the NHL.

It's super frustrating to watch. They preach player safety and yet let a butt end headshot go. I really hate comments you sometimes see from the conspiracy theorists out there, but when you watch stuff like this, in important games, it makes me wonder.

I hope Dubas gets the message that was sent tonight ? this team won't compete with Boston without some significant changes.
He doesn't need a message. He's not stupid, he knows what they need.

I wonder if he really does, though.  I worry that he's unwilling to move out some people because, you know, the team is 3rd best in the league or whatever the standings say.
Almost every team going for it rarely trades a player off their roster. They add players. I would love for him to grab a guy like Crouse.
Who's he going to move out?

I've wanted to see Crouse in blue and white for a while. Probably couldn't afford it but I would be fine if they just swang for the fences, got Chychrun too and called it a day.

Well, since Zee told me Rielly has an NMC and I guess we know Dubas would never have the cajones to ask him to waive it, that leaves:

Engvall
Kerfoot
ZAR

Not much of value.

I also said move JT to wing, which counts as a significant change.  I wish they had at least tried this alreadyy.  Yeah I know, we are weak up the middle.  But he could still take draws and I think it could be an improvement.

Rielly has been terrible this season.  Hopefully this all star break gives him a chance to "reset".  We've seen him play far better than this, so not sure what the hell is going on with him.  I really liked the look of the defense when Rielly was injured, now that he's back and playing like this, he eats up too many minutes for what he's doing, which is basically nothing good.  Let's hope for a better final 30 and playoffs from him.

I wish someone would put Holl out of my misery.
Holl's 2nd in both shot blocks and hits. Is our best PKing D man, plays regularly against the other team's top guys and makes 2M per. He has played well above his pay grade this season. Him and Gio are solid and making under 3M. Why the dislike?

Holl's play WITH the puck leaves a lot to be desired but after a rough start to the year I think he's been fine.  I'm content to move on from him next year if/when his salary bumps but I don't think he has really been the problem.

Morgan Rielly has been a problem.  His offensive game isn't really there this year.  We saw that a bit last year when his performance on the PP struggled and he's just not good enough defensively to not be an effective PP specialist.  He really needs to get his offensive game going more to offset his defensive issues.

The Leafs really can't afford to have the lack of production they have from the back end.
