Fairly predictable that it would be a higher scoring game.
Naturally glad they got the 2 points.
Grateful Matthews looks in good form.

The obvious challenge for this talented scoring team is defense.
The 5 goals against will help Keefe command their full attention in the next few practices.
They are changing their defensive system so it is going to have breakdowns.
Two tips, two breakaways/in on Samsonov alone and one other cross crease tip in. No softies that I saw. I think the skaters defensive execution/performance was far more suspect than Samsonov.
It's going to take 10-20 games to shake this roster out to figure out what they need (though a physical defensive dman is likely)

Well, we always see some crappy games in the first few weeks of the season especially with so many new faces. Hopefully Samsonov settles down, not his best effort. Matthews hatty-good

This. The first few weeks of the season are often higher scoring and sloppy. Tonight was a shining example of that.

I?ve subscribed to NHL TV. I?m getting old and can?t do regular late nights any more, particularly mid week. So my plan is to avoid results and watch the game first thing in the morning the next day.

I shall check in with my thoughts and try and read along the game day thread as I watch while hopefully not getting too far ahead in the thread of the action.

Can we loan Simmons to the Oilers?  I'm sure he'd have some questions after that 8-1 loss

I was lucky enough to go with my Habs buddy last night. It was the perfect game to go to with a fan of each team. The lead changes made for a lot of fun.

Domi invisible
Bertuzzi was ok
Reeves is a meatball
The Big 4 were great
Samsonov was terrible
Goal song is great, great hype
Leafs need to hit more
Gio doesn't care who or what's in front of him, he's going to shoot
I am hoping for a bounce-back season for Brodie, bad start

From the 2nd period to MTL's 4th goal at 14:13 of 3rd, MTL scored 3 goals on 5 shots. I gave him a standing ovation his next save. I would have pulled him after the 3rd goal that did not count.

Thanks for posting this. I look back at the game day thread probably once a year, or twice in this case since seeing the goals made me go back and read it again.
