Kampf and Robertson both received ?clean hits? but for some reason sustained some damage to their heads.

I thought the one on Robertson was high, and the Kampf hit had an elbow in it, a missed elbow perhaps. Either way, they weren't 'clean' like the one on Bertuzzi against Calgary, which no one avenged. Keep your elbows down and stay away from the head or get punched seems like a good unwritten rule to me. If the NHL won't protect the players, then they gotta protect themselves. Should have been a third instigator after the missed elbow on Gio.

Again, though, nothing wrong with the hit.

Doesn't matter. People were crying they don't stand up for each other and now they do and people are complaining.

I don't think anyone should have to answer for a clean hit.  Dumbest "code" in hockey.

But that's the way it is. Gio's shouldn't have been an instigator... He gave the guy plenty of warning... Domi jumped the guy.

End result is 2 goals against.  I guess it "sends a message" but having 2 shots in the whole period sends another kind of message.

Look, I myself said after the Boston debacle that it's a game of emotion as well as skill.  But uncontrolled emotion rarely works out well.  I don't hate that Gio and Domi stood up for the guys.  But better to pick your spots.

I don't know if anyone agrees with this, but I felt the Leafs finally became a team last night. I felt the responses by Domi and Gio where indicative of a new reality. I truly hope this carries over, to get such a different fourth line response just by adding McMann is insane. Nice to see Nicky Bobby settling into manhood is pretty nice as well. Hopefully the instant response to aggression is a fist in the face.

While many here didn't like the timing, but I loved the immediate response. The best thing was the team responded and many commented on Gio and Domi stepping up...let's hope it continues. I still believe Gio shouldn't have gotten the instigator..Domi yes.
