Carlyle fired

Carlyle and Wilson both seemed like jerks to me, with Wilson being the worst of the two of them.

And yet, word is that Wilson was a friendlier, more down to earth coach with the players than Carlyle, who is supposedly more of a task master.

Wilson took on the media aggressively so his players didn't have to. Carlyle, on the other hand, was much softer with the media. They were supposedly the opposite with their players - Wilson being a good communicator and a friendly, player's coach, while Carlyle was a gruff old school guy who was also a poor communicator.

I think the Leafs giving Horchuk 'player of the game' is a real slap in Randy Carlyle's face.

That seems so childish to me, these guys are supposed to be professional. This group of players seem childish, sort of like when they decided to not salute the fans because they were upset at the booing and sweater throwing after a 9-2 loss.

Just like the decision not to salute the fans.  You got to admit these guys have the character of a winner.

He won his first game as head coach of the team.  If they gave it to him after the Washington loss, I would say that was sending a message.  I think you are reading FAR too much into this.

Next thing you know, they will start handing the puck to a guy when he scores his first NHL goal.

Maybe they were being forced to play a system that didn't work?  And are so happy to see someone they feel actually knew how to put a system into place that they could execute successfully?  It would be very telling to see the Leafs corsi, shots against, etc all start to improve.

How is it childish?  People throw childish and immature around so easily at people and situations they have no firsthand knowledge of.

It's maybe a little bit cringeworthy, but if it shows the players have a bit of respect for the coach...

The fact that they pass around a camo jacket is the only thing I find a little cringeworthy. It seems like a silly ritual to start with, and I probably would have been embarrassed if we did that when I was in peewee, nevermind as adults.  But anyway, I don't imagine that they take that stuff too seriously (it's a camo jacket..) and it just strikes me as a nice gesture to a new coach.

Lots of NHL teams have this type of ritual. The Capitals pass around an Abe Lincoln beard and hat for their player of the game.

Calgary used to pass around a hard hat.

It's sounding less and less ridiculous all the time.

This is true...multiple adoptions of the ritual don't make it right.  Excuse me, I have to throw out my pyramid.

Who really care if they didn't salute the fans! I am not a fan of the Ranger which is where it started.
