I know that HNIC is there majority money maker, but why havn?t they put a cork in that blow hard?

The argument you always hear is that Cherry himself is so popular that he's part of the reason why HNIC is a big money maker. I don't know if that's true or not but the reason CBC would get rid of Cherry is if people stopped watching.

I know i?m not alone when I say ?I shut off coache?s corner everytime it comes on? I like Ron Mclean and I sort of feel sorry for him. I thinks he would do well with anybody they stuck in the colour commentator seat.

I?m from BC ... is it still OK for me to play? lol.

Personally, I'm kind of the opposite. Well, not the opposite as I'm no Don Cherry fan either but I think McLean has done a terrible job with Cherry. Coach's corner only works if someone's there to call Cherry on his crap otherwise it's uninterrupted crap. I understand McLean not wanting to argue all the time with a crazy old jackass but if he doesn't he's basically useless just nodding along.

Yeah, he does a good job of arguing with Bettman when he interviews him from time to time but he lets Cherry go on and on without really challenging him.

Just to add this in, a few of my buddies had started calling the Leafs the "Toronto Stars and Stripes". While I agree that Burkes job is to put the best team on the ice, I do agree with Cherry that we (as Southern Ontarions) are under represented... right now. No conspiracy theories or nothing, just saying I kinda agree with both.

Mr. Cherry would be hard for any host to control. A bit of a bully imo. I get the charachter identification, but it has gone on too long. If they are looking for ratings on Saturday Night, me thinks the ?ol gauge goes down and not much interest in what the man has to say. All the best to him but .....come on man!!!

I find this whole thing kind of hilarious as Don is ripping on Burke for going after him with the CBC ( and with the governors? first I'd heard of that ) but he's not really bringing a hockey issue to the table.

I mean, when it comes to a 'fact' Don's got one he can trumpet 'til the cows come home and hold onto like Blue tagging into a Burke shaped steak, but only in the simplest possible way.

...and even he admitted he got carried away with it.

It's Don's original schtick wrapped all Ontario flag in an attempt to shine a light on the Leafs while trying to embolden an old fashioned feud, and you know what, all it does is give attention to hockey in Toronto which I think is pretty much the point.

Elliott Friedman is the best thing HNIC has going for it right now. I usually turn Cherry off. Saturday was the first Coach's Corner I had seen in months, and what a shocker.

Yeah that bothered me as well. Especially how Cherry called Burke a hypocrite for firing Wilson 2 weeks after complaining about Cherry ripping him. But Burke fired Wilson because his hockey team wasn't winning, not because Wilson didn't applaud the troops.

No, that's right, it's like Dawkins talks about pigeons looking over their left shoulder when something positive happens, they'll look over their left shoulder again because they think that's the cause.

I'd like to know more about the details of what Don is claiming though, that Burke tried to get him fired with the CBC and went to the governors about him, cause that's almost equally ridiculous to me if there's substantive truth to it and I could see why he'd be pissed off about it.

I think two millionaires having hissy fits on tv is kind of funny.

Well so far I don't think Burke has said anything on TV about Cherry.

Fine...then Burke calling CBC and having a hissy fit about Don Cherry's public opinions.

Burke admitted to filing a complaint with the CBC. He said he tried to deal with the issue behind closed doors and was upset it was leaked. I think saying Burke tried to get Cherry fired though is a little extreme. This would be the first time I've heard anything about Burke going to the governors about it though.

I think they should just kiss and make up, then we can all get back to complaining about pushing for for a 9th place finish and a mediocre draft pick.

Cherry's rant Saturday night was tied directly to that CBC movie of him coming out Sunday night, a little self promotion goes a long way.

Cherry was looking for a reason to rip on Burke.. he always plays up Canadian nationalism and xenophobia.. but now he's against players from outside of Ontario being on the Leafs? That's ridiculous, and he's just fishing.. I think Cherry should probably retire. Coach's Corner is just depressing now.. he actually does an obituary (or several) at the end of every show. How would they replace him though? The Ron MacLean show?

Hard to say how extreme it is for me, or how one should interpret it from outside. I mean no matter I can see how Don would take it personally, it's not a complaint from just anyone but how deep it goes is really anyone's guess at this point. Don said that's what he was trying to do, doesn't mean it was but yeah, the comment about the governors was interesting and so far hasn't been refuted from what I can tell.

...and yeah 'stache, that wasn't lost on me either. ;)

That's the long game though E, a pointless feud that draws attention to both Cherry and the Leafs? ...colour me cynical but I call that a win-win. ;)

There was an article in the G & M, I think, about it and it said that Vancouver and Ottawa have also complained to CBC about Cherry/HNIC.
