I understand that this is such a small group of people, and this pandemic has been very hard on some few people much more than others, which can lead to mental fatigue and maybe in this case full-on mental illness.

I can't imagine what it would be like to have one of my kids in palliative care...it might push me over the edge in terms of my mental state of mind.

I'm at the point in my life I'm more understanding, even empathetic, of those that are obviously suffering from mental illnesses that others might simply write off as crazies.  From the videos I see online of some of the  Ottawa occupation individuals, I find myself feeling sorry for them more than I feel animosity.

I get what you are saying, but we are really over-inflating the mental illness aspect of their behaviour.  Most of these individuals have personality disorders.  Technically still in the realm of mental health but I think a lot of these individuals are being conflated as being mentally unwell instead of willfully making bad decisions.

I know everyone is dunking on this guy for being a horrible father but let's all keep in mind that what he objects to is a vaccine mandate at a place where they are providing palliative care for children.

Keep that in mind when you hear people say "Protect the vulnerable and let everyone else move on with their lives" as a rationale for ending restrictions.

Yeah. We're not talking about the can't go to a restaurant or see a movie crowd here - while I disagree with them, I can at least understand their feelings. Needing a vaccine to get into any sort of medical facility shouldn't be something at all controversial. Feeling like they should be entitled to see their daughter while putting her and other children at risk is just stupid and selfish. If the "cost" of seeing your daughter is getting vaccinated, that decision should have been one of the easiest things they've ever done.

It's not so much idiocy that I have a problem with, it's the reckless disregard for the health of seriously ill children. I guess you could call that stupid but to me it's a callousness and selfishness more than anything.

And that's what I think a lot of this is really about. For as much as some people want to present these protests as being a result of people being "tired" of restrictions or whatever the truth is that most of these people were freaking out about mask mandates and vaccine passports from the get go. It's not reasonable fatigue after going along with public health measures, it's always been the idea of being asked to do anything they don't want to do for the public good.

Well said. So he's a selfish idiot lol?

In some way, I empathize with Frank's view, in that I respect that I don't know the totality of their individual situation.

However, I also suspect if my 9-year old daughter was in palliative care and they said, "I'm sorry, you can only enter if you remove your left arm", I'd likely respond with: "hand me the saw."

I had to go through a few surgeries and cancer treatment through the height of the pandemic (I was lucky I was still able to have my surgeries scheduled) so while I was in the hospital I was all alone. No one could visit at all. And let me tell you it is depressing. Your thoughts can run away with you. I can?t even imagine what this poor child is going through. If this is in fact a real story.

On a side note I can?t speak highly enough of the doctors, nurses and support staff that took care of me. They were all truly remarkable.

Almost all parents would literally - LITERALLY - die for their children. These people won?t get a vaccine for theirs in dire health. How can she not deeply resent them? Her caregivers must despise the parents.

I genuinely thought this was a joke tweet until I saw it was actually on NP.
