Dallas Eakins

He hasn't had a good start to his NHL coaching career. The Oilers only have 4 wins after 20 games this season.

Separated at birth?

In all seriousness, Edmonton just seems like such a poisonous situation right now, and Eakins just walked into it.  He hasn't had the desired effect I'm sure Oiler fans were hoping for, but there needs to be some sort of shakeup of player personnel before pointing the finger to the new coach.

That's all true, but, it's easier to change the coach than to change the team. I won't be surprised if Eakins is let go before he gets a chance at a 2nd season in Edmonton.

If this indeed happens, which is completely plausible, it better be part of a full house cleaning of management.  The coach can be used as the scapegoat for their ineptitude only so many times.  And Katz seems like a completely out-of-touch owner.

I'm sure they'll probably just bring Craig MacTavish back as coach.  The Oilers management team is hilariously inbred...much like Winnipeg where they brought an AHL organization to play with the big boys in the NHL.  It's a different ball-game.

What's the difference in bringing in Dallas Eakins and bringing in Claude Noel?  Eakins is AHL just as much as he was no?

EDIT:  It's also funny how on the one hand Edmonton is cast as inbred, whereas you don't hear it about Colorado despite Sakic hiring Patrick Roy.  How different things could have been for those two teams!

Actually DownGoesBrown does a good comparison of Edmonton/Colorado today: http://www.grantland.com/story/_/id/9973203/the-colorado-avalanche-edmonton-oilers-rebuilds/

They're an old boys club. Bush league management that seems to trickle down to being bad at everything, like drafting and development.

The way this is heading, it's really gonna put a dent in Eakins' reputation as a coach.

Dallas Eakins, will he ever return to the NHL?

The former Marlies coach as well as former Oilers bench boss, is currently coaching the AHL's San Diego Gulls (farm club of the Anaheim Ducks).  In this article, he speaks of his Marlie days (especially of Kadri whom he still keeps in touch with), what happened after (his tenure with the Oilers), and his hopes of one day returning to the big league:
