Bolland has a ton of leadership ability.

How do you know this?

How don't you know this?

Good lord.

Ask a stupid question, and, well, you know...

Make a stupid, baseless assertion and, well, you know...

It's a subjective 'assertion'. I see leadership abilities in Bolland. If you don't than that's fine by me. That's your prerogative, but 'how do I know this'? is just a stupid question. Come on....you can do better than that.

Which, coming to the crux of the matter, is probably why most good teams don't devote all that much cap space to things that are subjective and intangible.

It's really not.  You made a comment and presented it as fact.  I asked how you know this - or in other words, on what basis are you stating this as your opinion.  Just because it's your opinion doesn't mean you can just have any opinion you want without any basis in reality and not be called out on it.

Feel free to say anything you want, but don't call it a stupid question to ask for you to back up your position.

If that's not a stupid question, than how is the opposite question I directed back at you any different? I asked you why you didn't think Bolland has any leadership skills. They are both pretty subjective questions, wouldn't you agree? What do you think?

He never said he didn't have any leadership abilities. He asked 'how do you know this' and all you've done is run around in circles to avoid answering the question.

The question has been answered to my satisfaction here?

?Bolland [has] been everything we?ve asked, because he?s a player you can move up and down in the lineup and he plays and practises at a very high pace.

?It?s not that he is immune to making mistakes. He makes mistakes as we all do. But it?s not a mistake through laziness ever. He may read the situation wrong, but it?s never laziness and he?s a model for our younger players. There?s a huge learning curve for a lot of young players in the league and on our team; David Bolland would be a guy that they should hang onto.?

There's absolutely nothing about leadership in that quote. It presents Bolland as a role model, but, being a role model and being a leader are two very very different things.

What is your definition of a leader, if not a role model? If the younger guys are looking up to you, you are a leader...

Being a role model is certainly a part of being a leader.  But you need to also act as a mentor in the lockerroom.  You need to be able to take people aside and talk to them about problems.  You need to be able to bridge the gap between the inevitable factions that develop when you have more than 5 people in a contained environment for 8-10 months a year.

The quote from Carlyle lists the attributes of a guy who is good to have in a lineup but they don't really outline why he is a leader.

A leader, you know, leads. It's an active thing. It's something you do. Being a role model, on the other hand, is a passive thing. It's something you are. A leader is a role model, but a role model is not necessarily a leader. Bolland may or may not do that. Neither of us can really say for sure. What I can say is nothing in Carlyle's quote tells me anything about his leadership abilities in any way.

And who's to say Bolland doesn't give advice to the younger guys in the locker room?

Neither of us, nor does Carlyle in that quote. We don't know because we're not there, and Carlyle doesn't say anything about him doing so in the quote you're using as your evidence.

Thank-you. So you can't tell me that Bolland isn't a leader in the locker room, right?

I have no problem with that. Move along...

Clearly, you do, which is why we had to have this discussion in the first place.

Lol. Let me change the wording, as I fear that is what is perplexing you sooooo much. 'I believe that Bolland has leadership skills'

Wow....There.....you can move along now... :o

About defensive zone coverage in the third period, I'm sure.

?He brings a ton of leadership on and off the ice, he is a guy that has won two Stanley Cups and he knows what it takes,? Tyler Bozak said on Wednesday after a handful of Leafs participated in an optional practice at the MasterCard Centre.

?He can help us in the room, as well as on the ice, and show us what we need to do. (He) also adds an element to our team that we were missing for sure. (Bolland has) big shoes (for others to fill), so it?s nice to have him back.?
