Dave Bolland

If we didn't have the Olympic break coming up I don't think people would be making a big deal about when he comes back.

Probably not, though, I think a lot of us would be pushing for a conditioning stint before having him suit up for an NHL game.

I remember the same concerns when Kessel came back in his first year here and he hasn't missed one game since.

Why do people think that the doctors would clear him if there is an actual risk of re-injuring himself? How can any of us realistically assess if he is being "rushed" back, without the medical expertise or access to his medical information?

He's been skating for nearly 3 weeks and practicing with the team for a week or so now, how does it seem rushed?

"We" always seem to assume the worst will happen.

he could get hit by a car tomorrow too.  Likely similar odds.

That's a bit of a stretch.  To think it's in the same possibility he gets into a car accident then re-injuring an ankle considering the main part of hockey is skating...well I dunno.  The game conditions, stop and start etc are all ramped up to higher levels than just skating in practice. It's actually quite conceivable that he could re-injure the ankle if it's not 100% healed.

But why would you think the medical staff would clear him to play if there was that risk? Where does that fear come from?

There was no break when Kessel was returning from injury and I remember similar concerns.

I understand what you are saying but look at the case of Clarkson, his elbow was not healed and he came back to burst the sac again and he should let it heal properly if we are not hurting, same for Bolland. I am not a doctor but do play one on television.

Hey-ooooooo

Clarkson is a deviant, no wonder Carlyle's not giving him PP time.

Clarkson was coming on in the last 10 games showing us why we signed him. He is a good player. And a family man not a deviant.

He had 1 assist in his last 10 games, I sure as hell hope he's better than that.

Yes but he was in the face of the goalies and screening them, shots where going in where he created by going to the net. That is is his forte.

My understanding is that the tendon has healed fully, and pain is the limiting factor in his return at this point... that, and conditioning I'm sure.

I look forward to seeing what Clarkson does once Bolland returns, assuming he plays on his line.

Sounds like Clarkson has an infection rather than a re-injury, so I'm not sure it had anything to do with coming back too early.

It was a cut on his elbow and was healing but was re-opened when he played and took a hit.

Quite a nasty one if it's the same injury they showed on 24/7.

That fear comes from almost 40 years of being disappointed as a Leafs fan.  :-\

Sure, but he also had like 30 intangibles in that span.

I think Clarkson should take the next 5 or so years to heal that elbow, just to be sure. He's garbage and the team's better without him. Unless he takes Colton Orr's role - I can live with that.

This.  Clarkson has been some kind of bad.  Not a good choice to sign him.

That be an expensive Colton Orr... :-\
