Deadline day thread

Could the NHL fine the Sabres for intentionally tanking. I mean, they've traded their #1 and #2 and are now rolling fringe goalies.

That's about as obvious as it gets.

Don't know if there's anything the league can do about it ...

Guarantees them one of the two franchise players available if the Coyotes don't beat them out

So realistically for nothing then, unless DET scouts are picking him.

In the last 10 years, the Leafs have drafted 4 future NHL regulars in the 5th round or later.

I'm with Nik on this. A pick is a pick. Draft position doesn't really matter if you develop well.

So you're saying, keeping Lupul and Bozak in the lineup, versus trading them for future assets and replacing them with, say, Leivo and McKegg in the lineup - has no potential impact on how/where the Leafs finish this year?

No. What I asked is if you honestly believe they'll have a serious impact on where they finish. The Leafs have been pretty bad with the two of them in the lineup.
I honestly believe it's possible that having them (Bozak/Lupul) in the lineup versus not having them could make a difference of 1 or a few draft spots. Once the deadline is past, players will relax knowing they're not going anywhere (right now, anyway), and some of those shots will start going in the net like they were earlier in the season. I'd rather not take that chance.

Gunnarson was a 7th round pick....but then again so was Frazer McLaren.  ;)

I can see that.  The group doesn't seem to play well with pressure.  Once the deadline is done, they loosen up, know they're set until end of the year and start winning games.  Bye bye top 5 pick.

The reason I didn't ask what you thought was possible is because it's also possible that bringing up kids from the AHL would result in the exact same thing because they'd be playing with all sorts of energy and enthusiasm.

Realistically though neither guy will make a world of difference. If there is some sort of post-deadline relaxation that helps pucks start going in the net that'll apply to better players like Kessel and JVR and that's what's likely to have a serious impact on the team's performance.

Leafs 6th/7th round picks over the last few years:
Andreas Johnson (7th round), Viktor Loov (7th round), Connor Brown (6th round), Antoine Bibeau (6th round).

Going further back the Leafs have guys like Komarov, Stralman and Ian White in the late rounds as guys who have had positive NHL production.

Yeah it's a deal you have to make.

Booth must have zero value with some of the guys that have been moved for depth today.

The cuteness there is almost entirely negated by the fact that Jordan Leopold named his daughter Jordyn.
