Game Notes

NJD -Connor Hellebuyck will start for the Devils -Hellebuyck is 4-0 since being acquired by the Devils last month, albeit with just a .891 Sv% -New Jersey is also on the 2nd half of a back to back, having beat the Islanders 5-4 in overtime Saturday night

TOR -Anthony Stolarz will start for the Leafs -Rielly left Saturday's game with a lower body injury and Hiller did not have an update on his status post-game. Seems likely Mermis will be required to step in for him -The Leafs will debut their brand new Hometown Remix jerseys in this one. Hopefully nobody throws one on the ice at some point in the game

Devils are 8-2 in their last 10
In the 4 games with Hellebuyck, they gave up an average of 23 shots/game holding EDM & VGK to 21 shots and DAL to 18

Devils are 7th in GF/GP, 9th in GA/GP, 24th in PP% and 29th in PK% so maybe getting them playing more on special teams might be something for the Leafs to consider (depending on which Leafs special teams show up)

Akhtyamov (oddly)sent down along with Lettieri, while Cole McWard is called up. Might be some roster juggling required.

I don't see anything internally needed in terms of cap or roster
Saw a report that Merzlikins & his $4.43M cap hit was getting closer to return - he had been scheduled for December but has been practising ... ??

Sounds like Tanev is out tonight (planned they say) along with Rielly, with Mermis and McWard in. Well...sometimes being shorthanded galvanizes everyone else into a better performance. We've seen that many times over the years when various Leafs are out of the lineup. Kind of need that tonight.
