Kristen Shilton got Galchenyuk all verklempt;

https://youtu.be/lGhGVTc9rsM?t=177

I never actually heard Galchenyuk speak before, for some reason I thought he'd had an American accent cause he was born in the States but he's got a slight Russian type accent in his voice.  I'm all messed up, it's like when I thought Kapanen would sound Finnish and he speaks like an American.

He spent most of his childhood in Europe (dad was a Belarusian hockey player who played in Wisconsin when Alex was born). While Kapanen was born in Finland but spent most of his childhood in the U.S. (also because of his hockey playing dad of course).
Interesting! I also assumed he'd sound American.

The test drive is coming up a bit earlier than I expected.
I was thinking the same and then realized he's been with the Leafs for over a month now. He basically had 2 weeks straight of nothing but work with the development team before playing his first game with the Marlies. I'm hoping for the best for him and the Leafs! I think he has a great opportunity here.

Two weeks seems very little to me when weighed against being terrible for the last five years or whatever. Maybe with an entire summer of training with elite specialists I would be more optimistic. Of course I hope for the best.

It was only really 2019/20 with Pittsburgh/Minnesota and his 8 games this season where production dipped significantly below a 50 point pace.

He was at a 47 point pace with Arizona in 2018/19, if he can do that again, it would help the team.
If he can get back to his close to 50 point pace from 2018/19, only 2 years ago, he could be useful.

watching the Marlies highlights of him, he seems to have moved away from the A frame style that Jack Han illustrated to us, which had him skating on his heels. Some more work with our development team especially Barb should have him motoring along just fine.  Fingers crossed on his chance here.
More excited about tonights game than in a little while. Nice to have Simmons back and hope Campbell plays soon.

Yeah. People talk about Galchenyuk like he?s a horrible player, but he?s been a 20+ goal, 40+ point player every season other than his time in Pittsburgh and a cup of coffee in Ottawa. He couldn?t repeat his 30 goal year and struggled with some injuries, but he?s still mostly been a reasonably productive player. He?s a disappointment for a 3rd overall pick who wasn?t living up to his contract, but he?s not like he?s a complete bust who should have been out of the league years ago.

Ya and he always wanted to be a Leaf since he was a kid.

I expect him to play well for the first few games due to adrenaline etc. Question is to bring it for the most part each night. We'll see. Had oppurtunities elsewhere and didn't take advantage of it.

A few weeks ago the Leafs were pacing the league.  Now wouldn't be in first place in any other division.

I still think we're the best squad in the North but they need to re-locate their mojo.
