7 d' again for Carlyle, with Clarkson/Ashton out and McLaren/Ranger in vs #Flyers #TMLtalk

McLaren in over Ashton.

If there is any team in the league I'm fine with McLaren dressing in, it would be against the Flyers.  But I don't understand the rationale for scratching Ashton to make it happen.

Can someone explain the rationale in dressing 7 D vs continuing to have no 4th line virtually at all? It can't be that it keeps our D "fresher" - not by the way they are playing.

It gives the Leafs more options in regards to how to utilize their defence. With 7 defencemen, it means that Franson, Gardiner, and Rielly don't have to kill penalties. And since the 4th line barely plays at all anyway, it's not too hard to throw in a top-9 winger on the 4th line for an extra shift.

A 4th line goal? My word! Great work by Bodie there.

Although McLaren being on the ice on a goal for probably cements his spot back onto the roster.

The Leafs defensive zone play continues to escape me.  They have some space and just throw the puck into a corner where it is an equal footchase for the Flyers and Leafs player to get to it.

And Gardiner scores after some fantastic work by Bodie.  That's the second good play by Bodie.  And Gardiner with great patience and the Flyers and Leafs work together to screen Mason.
