Frederik Andersen

Hope he doesn't get burned out again by Babcock. We've seen November Freddie play like this before, it's April+ that I'm worried about.

I'm kind of not that worried; Leafs are getting rolled some nights on the shot clock (and the shot attempts), but from watching the games, the Leafs are pretty much pulling off what Carlyle wanted to do in keeping shots to the outside. Not only are the shots generally outside, they're giving Andersen clean looks at the shooters, so all he's doing is squaring up and nullifying (or utilizing) the rebound.

Vegas wasted us on the shot clock but I don't think there were more than a half dozen actually dangerous attempts (in terms of pre-shot movement, location, traffic).

It's still a lot of up/down and the game day weight loss recovery though.  I don't think it matters much if he faces 10 shots of 100 shots a game.  I think they just need to make sure he isn't playing 70 games this year.

I think to that point, there's a reason they went with an AHL starter than an NHL backup for the job.

Freddie back to allowing 2-3 goals per game for a while now with super steady and great 'tending.

Yet another 2-goal performance by the Steady One. As a Leafs #1 you work every game night. Up-down-up-down for the 6'4, 230 Great Dane.

This is concerning so close to the big dance ...

Nylander is the guy that injured him in practice earlier in the season too.  Can someone ask Willy to lay off?

I think it was Sparks he hit in practice, earlier in the year.

Willy needs to smarten up. That's at least twice this season.

Oh yeah you're right, that's when we saw Hutch for the first time, Andersen was hurt and then Nylander hurt Sparks in practice and we had to start Hutchinson.

Did you watch the video in the link you responded to? It was a pretty harmless shot that tipped up off a defenceman and then hit Andersen in the arm in a weird spot. Completely fluke play.

Hilarious seen the post in another forum and first guy I thought was Willy. Not sure why everything else he's been firing at the net has been wide.

I think the best bet for Nylander is to get coke bottle glasses like Charlie Sheen in Major League, and it'll all turn around.

Also, Freddy comes up after 2 more years. What do you think he gets open market continuing his numbers from the last three years. He'll be 31. I'm sure we all agree he's on a value contract right now at $5-million. Tons of minutes and saves, great numbers and high value chances against. Strong mentally and rarely gets injured.

Holtby's next contract (UFA next summer) will probably set the market there. Pretty similar goalies:

-Both 29 years old
-Both coming off similar 5-year deals (Andersen's AAV was $5mil, Holtby's $6.1mil)
-Both play on high-offensive teams
-Similar-ish win totals and save percentage the last few years, although Holtby's numbers the past 2 seasons are a little under his career norms
-Neither's save percentage is really in the "elite" category
-Holtby has a Vezina trophy and a Stanley Cup, Andersen (to date) does not

Honestly, I'd have a hard time projecting him over $7mil right now. Especially considering he'll be 31 (edit: his birthday is Oct. 2nd, so he'll be 32 years old when his next deal starts) and goalies are weird.

But of course a lot can happen in the next 2 years, and his performance in that time will be what mostly decides his new deal.
