Game#19 Toronto @ Nashville 8 pm LeafsTV, AM640 blah blah blah

We had 39 shots on a guy some say might be the best goalie in the league. Our AHL call-up goalie let in the first shot he faced then calmed down. We're riddled with injuries. Sure, some brain cramps, but good compete by most of the team all night. I'd say Leafs carried the game, but a far more talented and deep team won. All things considered, could be worse.

Seriously, the sky isn't falling guys. The Leafs played well tonight - they were, in my estimation, the better team. Sometimes, that doesn't get you anywhere, but, tonight is by no means an indication that the team is about to free-fall to the bottom of the league. If not for Rinne and a small handful of defensive blips and questionable goals, this would have been a pretty easy Leafs win.

At least we have our own first round pick this time... Tank Nation 2.0?

We're not even below .500!

Yet.

.579
.... which sadly drops us to 19th in pts win% (8th in conference)

It doesn't seem that long ago that they were #2 in that stat.

So they've largely burnt the good start.

Hopefully, they can tread water well enough through the tough upcoming schedule to hang on until they can get healthier and not get too far out of it.

.500 doesn't make the playoffs anymore by a long shot.  We're 2 pts away from falling out of the playoff spots.  After the start that we had to be below 8th after less than 25 games will be embarrassing.

It certainly is frustrating to see the Leafs in a bit of a funk. Injuries don't help either. Hope they somehow hang in there and hopefully play some .500 hockey before everyone comes back.

Goaltending wasn't a huge problem tonight, I think we simply got beat by Rinne. Nashville is never an easy opponent for the Leafs.

If you look at the standings in a vacuum and don't take the circumstances of why they're in this position into account.  Sure, not all of it is due to injuries, there have been some stinkers, but they've also been killed by some unfortunate circumstances as well.  Put the level of goaltending we've had since game 5 or whatever, on any other team in the league, with a similar number of regulars out, and I have no doubt they would be struggling too.

Gettin' there...

So is every team that lost tonight.

True, but we also need to make a move or we'll be flushing this season down the drain, and we'll only fall to the nether region of the first round: picking 8th-15th. If this turns into "We're good enough to be out of top 10 pick but suck enough to not make the playoffs" it will be extremely demoralizing. Nothing worse than recurring mediocrity.
