Game 20: Leafs @ Flyers, 7:00pm - TSN, CSN-PH

I haven't seen too many games lately, but I am getting the impression that the Leafs are taking more penalties than the opposition. Is this true? Is it deserved? Or is the law of averages catching up?

You guys ruined it for me. Listening on the internet and I was delayed. Didn't get the full excitement of that empty net

Why did Carlyle send Kessel out with 1:45 left and trying to protect a 1-goal lead?  He's been an astute coach but every once in awhile (like not letting Bozak take the draw against OTT) he does stuff that is just inexplicable.

Personally, I think the Leafs are getting hosed.

I think they've had some brain cramps of late and it's catching up to them.

Coming into the game they only had 63 penalties called against them (good for 5th least in the league).  In comparison they had 81 powerplay opportunities, good for 5th most.

I think it's just one of those things where he's trying to challenge him to be a better player. And while Kessel did make a pretty big mistake on his first clearing attempt, he learned from it and made a smarter move on attempt number two.

I had the same thing typed out basically and didn't post it. As much as I hated Wilson some of RC's decisions lately have me scratching my head. Bozak I don't mind but Kessel and JVR are both soft in my mind and both shy away from the hits and you have to take a hit sometimes to get it out. You don't need a goal protect the lead and get the h**l out of there. No need to pad these guys points. I know Phil has struggled with the scoring but he has been playing well. His goals will come.

I dunno, I still think my statement was pretty spot-on. I mean had Phaneuf slashed and serious hurt Komarov or went number two on the ice the ref would have probably called the play dead, which is of course much better than causing an odd-man rush the other way.

Next time, I suggest adding "literally" in front. Such as "literally couldn't have played worst." Completely takes out any ambiguity, literally.

So was it Voracek and Couturier for Carter? That looks pretty good right now.

With those two points, Voracek moves up to 24 points, just 5 behind Stamkos for the league lead. Not bad.

Why do the Flyers get to turn their turd contracts into gold?

Anyway good win after that disappointment Saturday. Hopefully they continue their success against the Habs Wednesday.

I only had a blurry stream tonight but they definitely got screwed a couple of times on Saturday.  A blatant trip on Kessel and an Ott player put the puck over the glass from their zone.  Still doesn't excuse the comedy of errors and poor effort that cost them the game but the reffing was awful.

Leafs have done a good job avoiding losing streaks this year.

A couple of 2-gamers, games 4-5 and 8-9, but since then they've gone 8-3-0.  Obviously if you can avoid the losing streaks the worst you can do is .500, as they have done in the last 4 games going 2-2 and hanging on to their playoff position for now.

It's a good thing too, no room for a Wilson-special 5+ gamer in this short season.

Voracek is looking dynamite this year...

A complete non-sequitur: I can remember Pierre McGuire going on at the draft that Blue Jackets had made a terrible choice - he was too "safe" and the home town fans (it was held in Colunbus in 2007) deserved better - I think he was plugging Hamil and Cherepanov instead...

He also ripped the Habs selection of Carey Price.  Oh, Pierre.

What Columbus gave up and then got in return for Carter has to be a pretty huge tradedown. I'd rank Voracek ahead of Johnson in value and I'd certainly take Couturier over LA's 1st.

I'd rather Voracek/Couturier over Carter as well.

Philly came out ahead big time in that deal (as did LA for that matter)

We've probably discussed this before but a lot of people thought Johnson was a terrible, terrible defenseman and LA would have been better off without him ... To get Carter back was quite the bonus.
