Game 3: Leafs at Penguins - TSN 7:00 PM

They're not a bad team, I just think people are either overly critical of the team or don't get their hopes up for fear of them being crushed. Yeah, Reimer was a bit shaky but I know which goaltender I'd rather have on my team for tonights game and it certainly wasn't Fleury.

I don't care how the team wins. I don't care if Reimer plays shaky or the D gives up some chances or some players aren't scoring as long as they can still pull off a win.

The whole seems to be greater than the sum of their parts so far this season and I am willing to look past some blemishes as long as we stay competitive, and so far we have done that.

So Reimer lets in two stoppable goals and in recent years, that tended to take the steam out of them.

The guys Carlyle calls out step up.

So they go into Pittsburgh, overcome allowing two stoppable goals, and soundly beat a team that in my opinion before tonight, was playing about as well as any in the NHL. Heck of a win.

Heck. Of. A. Win.

you can imagine why people are hesitant though..last season they were competitive..right up until it mattered...and i think we can agree it doesn't matter yet ..i know the cliche about the points at the start being worth the same as those at the end..but really it seems teams to reach a second gear nearer the playoffs..and until we see the leafs get that gear..i'm still going to be really ..really tentative ....  still though..great start...i hope they can build on it

Exactly what I'm getting at. Im not going to temper by optimism by saying so and so played just OK when the real story is the team really overcame a lot of obstacles and challenges to hammer a very, very good team.

And I mean really I'm not going to complain about HOW a goaltender gets a .933 SV%

Anyone catch the stat they said during the 3rd - this would mark the first time in however many years that the Leafs have had three straight games of 2 goals or less against.

February 2011 - so, not all that long ago, but, still a little surprising. That stretch was actually 3 straight with 1 or less non-shootout goals.

Every game in a 48 game season matters.

Im not proclaiming they will get into the playoffs but, without having blue and white goggles on, I honestly see a different team so far this year in play style and the additions of Kadri and McClement have paid off so far. Im not going to say JVR has provided that yet, he needs more consistency but he did have a good game tonight.

I think it's odd to look at a sports team and think once bitten twice shy. If I see a reason for optimism from a win I will take it, if I see reasons for pessimism in a loss, I will take it, but I don't really understand why people wouldn't at least look at the positives as opposed to looking at "Well, we've lost before so we'll lose again" when reasons for optimism, I think, are legitimate.

I noticed that too. Hopefully they can continue to either keep the shots against to minimum or receive strong goaltending, or both. It is a pretty good start so far.

So, I only caught the third period but thought  Reimer looked solid and made some key stops. Does anyone have video of the 2 goals that apparently were weak?

Amen. Only caught the third period, but I have to say, the Leafs looked very, very solid out there as a team...to do so against Pittsburgh? Means a lot more to me than the win against the Habs (but a win is a win)....

In Rome on business with crappy hotel Internet so catching the game is a challenge ... Anyway, the boxscore says Lupul played 12 minutes, little pp time. Did he get injured?

Thanks, and they just repeated what they said in the highlights - "all of last season without."

Great win boys....loving the attention to defense.

Im hoping lupes isn't gone for too long. Fingers crossed.

Reimer looked good when he had too be.  Two shaky goals, but they were against Crosby and malkin so a bit of a pass may be warranted.

Kostka Phaneuf and komi were all strong today.  Didn't notice much of Liles which I guess is a good thing.  Gardiner skating well but looked a little rusty.  He'll be back to his normal self in no time.

JVR - welcome to Toronto!

Honestly, like I said earlier, there's room for improvement but really anytime a goaltender posts a .933 SV% I'm not really going to be that hard on him, even if the goals weren't completely unstoppable.
