Game 3: Leafs at Penguins - TSN 7:00 PM

Chalk this one up to a combo of good D, good enough goaltending, and a good PK.  Kudos for a good effort.

Reimer was alright. He made some great saves but the two he let in were suspect. Didn't matter in the end so overall a good performance.

The win makes losing Lupul a little easier to take....for now.

Great game and big win. Reimer was very solid.

Not often will you find a team make Crosby and Malkin look average. The Leafs did that tonight. Full marks all around.

I've gotta say that I'm pleasantly surprised with the Leafs so far this season.  I wasn't expecting so much out of Kadri, and Kostka is just a bonus, I don't know where he even came from.

Really I think that if the Leafs make the playoffs this year it will really be unfair that they fired Burke.

Considering is was his first game in 10 months, I thought Reimer looked good. The goals were stoppable, but I'm not sure I'd call either of them real stinkers. On top of that, he made a few excellent saves. All things considered, I'd say tonight's performance was encouraging. The team's overall defensive play seems really improved so far, as well as their aggressiveness on the physical side of things. They look like a much harder team to play against.

I also thought Kessel looked really good tonight. It's just a matter of time for him to dent the twine, and then, I think, he'll start scoring in bunches.

It's odd and kind of heartwarming to see a Leafs team playing fundamentally sound D.

Good all around game tonight.

yeah ..i'd have to say that was my feeling throughout most of this game..i'm just so used to endless odd man rushes ..it was nice to see guys actually not cheat..hopefully they can keep that up and build on it ...

Just chiming in to agree with you, Coderasp, CPD.  This game was won by the defense.  How many times have been able to say that since ... well, the dawn of time?

First game for Reimer in a while. What I liked was that he shut the door in the 3rd, reminescient of his first year.

Yeah, Kessel looks like he is committed to back-checking, which is good to see. Carlyle won't let him off the hook, so this is good that he is responding.

Reimer, I suspect a little bit of nerves on the goals that were scored on him. He settled in after that I thought.

Yeah. He made the saves when it counted. That's all that matters.

Excellent! Missed the 2nd and 3rd, but looks like another good effort. Nice little start to the season - let's hope they keep it up!

From what I was able to see tonight this was a solid effort from the Leafs.  I caught the end of the Buffalo and Montreal games and felt the Leafs outplayed the opposition.

Like someone else posted, the Leafs made a Crosby/Malkin team look average.  That is also impressive.

They should be 3-0.

They completely outplayed the Pens IMO. We've seen starts like this before so I'm hesitant to get excited but they are actually playing lockdown D. Weird.....but great to see.

Defensively, Phaneuf has been lights out.
Loving the fact that Carlyle is getting the entire team buying into the system.
