Do you suppose there's any way we can make Lupul the Captain without insulting Phaneuf? I'm thinking that they could probably convince Dion that the A stands for "Also Captain" and just get the rest of the team to play along.

I was going to say today that a mark in the column for not keeping Phaneuf is that we can anoint Lupul...

You realize that anoint primarily means to rub with oil, right? Although something tells me finding a fan for that job wouldn't be too tricky.

For Every game Lupul is in, the Beauchemin trade looks like a rip off...

I agree, it was a heist.

Although it's worth mentioning that Beauchemin is #1 in ice time for one of the better teams in the league.

And it's worth mentioning that he was far from that when he was here (although perhaps he would have fared better under Carlyle) and we have an abundance of young blueliners coming along and enough veterans that we could afford to make that trade and what we got in return was a steal - particularly the throw in contract dump of a forward in whom the coach and management had lost confidence.

Here, all he does is contribute.

Even if Beauch's play had improved here we had a greater need that Lupul fills.

Gardiner's going to be back in the minors the way he's playing. Horrible the last few games inn his own end. I don't remember him being this bad last year.

I just logged on to see if everybody else thought he was having as rough a game as I thought he was ...

I wonder who you're talkin' about.......

Well, I'd imagine that Anaheim, with Selanne, Ryan and Perry to score on the wing probably feel the same way in reverse about the respective needs Lupul and Beauchemin filled.  I mean it's not like Lupul was as good with Anaheim as he's been here either.

He now has to clear waivers to do so, so won't happen.

Lupul with 6 goals in 4 games.

'Tis no man, 'tis a relentless scoring machine.

Good teams find a way to win games like this.

Even though it is a cliche, and even though it fell from the pallid lips of Greg Millen, it retains a full measure of truth value.

I think good teams just win more games, they don't "find" ways to win, they just win more often.

But anyways, someone on twitter says the Leafs should be able to make the playoffs with something like 6-8-0 the rest of the way.  Hope they don't make it that close, but still not a terrible position to be in.

Between Lupul and Beauchemin it's hard to say who won that swap, because both have been wildly successful for their new teams.

We did get Gardiner though, which is the trump card in this case.
