Sightly OT, cos the highlights are just on TV here, but how much attention do you guys pay, if any, to the Spengler Cup? Team Canada v Wolfsburg was on today.

None, actually. I've never even bothered to look up any details on the tournament - who are these guys?

Marty Turco is in goal.

Few other interesting names playing for the Euro teams though, Robbie Earl is guesting for Davos (on loan from Salzburg Red Bulls)

Where do the players come from and what determines their eligibility? Is it much more popular in Europe (you're in Sweden right?).

I'm in Ireland, but follow a lot of European (and of course British) hockey as well as NHL with a major weakness for Berlin Eisbaren and Djurgardens in Sweden.

The arena seems to have been fully sold out, and it seems to be a pretty big thing that Wolfsburg beat Team Canada today and their website is pretty excited by it.

HC Davos beat TC 8-1 the other day as well, Petr Sykora getting a hat trick.

Am I the only one that thinks Frattin should go down to the Marlies, if everybody is miraculously healthy?

He already was sent down.  I would imagine he goes down when everyone else is healthy.

Yeah, I meant for more than 3 games. I suppose injuries did have something to do with that, but I'd like it to have something to do with his development, rather than numbers.
His defensive game seems ok to me. Have to see how he's playing when or if everyone is healthy but I think his time with the Leafs has been good for him. You could probably make an argument either way.

Kulemin with a nice shift there on the 4 on 4.

I think Thierry Henry plays for Red Bulls as well.

Spengler Cup Team Canada Roster is HERE

Turco, Fata and Jeremy Williams might be the only ones I'd recognise. The squad is made up of European based Canadians mainly.

Other than Team Canada, countries are represented by teams from their national leagues. Team Canada tends to be made up of former borderline NHLers, Canadians on European teams not involved in the tournament and the odd older player trying to show he can still play (Joseph a few years ago, Turco this year, etc).

It's weird, Robbie Earl is playing for HC Davos.

Anyone have a Canadian feed? I've only got a crappy American one for now.

The Hurricanes announcers have been pumping the tires of Kadri, Phaneuf, etc... most of the game. And you don't have to listen to that clown yelling "Holy Mackinaw!"

I'm loving it.

He hasn't been horrible, I just think he needs to work on some things and play against some inferior competition for a while. Theres no doubt in my mind that he will be a good NHL player, I just think he is sloppy sometimes.
