Yes, I don't get the criticism of Orr and McLaren -- you are 100% correct.

In fact, McLaren has 2 GWGs I believe.

GWG's are a pretty overrated stat unless you're somebody who is leading the league in them. I mean one of McLaren's GWG's was the first goal 3 minutes into a game that eventually ended 3-0. The other GWG put the Leafs up 3-0 against the Bruins, but Boston scored 2 after that. I'm not saying that the goals weren't valuable, but they weren't really any more valuable than any of the other goals scored in those games.

As for their actual value, if all they were expected to do was punch players in the face between plays then I give them an A+. But that's not all they need to do. They also have to play hockey on the ice every now and then and they're not very good at that at all.

Well, if you don't care about winning games, I suppose.

Look, the fact that McLaren has ANY goals is kind of amazing considering his TOI.  I just don't get the bashing.

McLaren just makes the Orr situation more confusing.  McLaren packs a wallop and chips in a goal every now and then, so what is Orr for?  Fraser on the back end is also not scared to drop them.  We have enough fighters I don't get dressing a player who can't do anything else.

The 3rd goal in a 7-2 win would be a GWG.

So CBC has Montreal game on here in Edmonton, yet NHL Gamecenter has me in a blackout area as well. Awesome.

Lame. You can stream the game online though through CBC.ca:

Yes, its already on on my lap top but so far its not working.
Glad to see Leo Komarov back, I think Leafs missed him especially last game.

That's not how I explained it at all. Again, McLaren's goals in those games shouldn't be any more valuable than any of the other goals scored in them.

A GWG supposedly shows how clutch a player is, right? Well are we going to say that McLaren is as clutch as Kessel? And more clutch than Kadri?

I'm 99.9% certain that nobody in the NHL is substantially better at scoring game-winning goals than scoring regular goal.  Either you are good at scoring goals of all kinds, and by chance some of them turn out to be GWG, or you aren't good at scoring goals, and by chance you may or may not score a couple of the game-winning kind.  GWG is a function of how many goals you score in total + how good your team is + a massive amount of luck.

Exactly. As far as I'm concerned the only goals that should be considered as "game winning goals" are goals that break a tie in the 3rd period. Obviously that'll never be the official definition though.

Guys, save your fingers -- I get all that stuff re GWGs and you're right.  The fact that this guy has any at all is the point.

McLaren is a late scratch - Hamilton draws in.

Somebody wrote on twitter earlier today that after Kessel, Bozak, Kadri, and Phaneuf, Orr's spot in the line-up is the safest among any player. Seems pretty accurate to me.

Yep, because we all know by now RC is going to have at least one of the bash bros in there and he likes Orr between the two of them it seems.  So yeah, Orr won't miss any games.
