Anyone know if Allaire (sp) teaches the "drop down and grab the post" method of stopping shots from the corner? Maybe they need to show them the stand up and face the puck style instead....oh yeah and Monster, please stay in your net and leave the puck alone! They sure dominated for quite a lot of the game though, good to see.

I've never seen a Leafs goaltending coach get blamed/questioned about individual goals against like Allaire does.

I'm not blaming him it was actually a question. I see a ton of goalies play like that and drop down against the post instead of just standing up and I wondered if it was something he teaches.
If he has been working a lot with Gus I think his angles have gotten better and I can see improvement from last year so kudos to Allaire.

It is better to crouch down a bit while hugging the post, but the pads have to remain together as well.  One other thing I would do is place my stick upright to block passes across the crease.  It forces the player to raise the shot, which gave me a better chance of stopping the shot.

Also, if a player had the puck behind my net, I would use the crouch and hug the post method, and again, have my stick out trying to block passes or shots from behind the net.  If the player tried to come out in front, I held my stick in a manner that allowed me to poke check the puck off the player's stick.  I also positioned myself that would allow me to quickly shift from left to right or vice versa.

IMHO the stand up position works best on breakaways as it can make the goalie look bigger, but every goalie is different and as a goalies develops, they prefer to play a certain style and it is very difficult to make a goalie change play style if he has been playing that way for a long time.

I found the hooking the outside pad straight up the post stopped anything from going in short side and I agree the active stick to cut off passes meant you were protecting yourself and not having to depend on the defense.

I'm the same, just about.  Got hooked on watching hockey during the Canada-Russia '72 series,  I was 8 years old at the time.  A few years later, around the time I was 10, started watching the Leafs and have ever since.  :)

Me three - I was 4 in '67, and don't remember the Leafs last cup win. My earliest hockey memory was of Bobby Orr's "flying in the air" Cup winning goal in OT over St. Louis in about 1970.

The next biggest memory was, of course, the tremendous Summit Series with the Soviets in 72. I remember being so proud of Paul Henderson representing the Leafs so well. Memories! *sigh*

Ha...young pup, I was 12. From now on I'm right about everything:)

I concede victory though - only started watching again 93 series, sucker ever since.

So it seems there are lots of us out there that have been waiting a real long time, better be soon are hearts are getting old and, I dont know about the rest of you but when they last won I could not drink because i was too young. I hope i'm not to old this time around. ;D

lol it's an old guys revolution! :) I can't say I actually recall the cup winning game in '67 (other than watching replays of course) but I do recall the talk about it with friends at school the next day. I was in grade 3. :)

The first ever live game of hockey I attended was Leafs v Caroline game 6 of the conference final in 2002. I'd never been to a hockey game before. I had no idea what a conference final was. All I knew was the home team had to win.

I just happened to be in Toronto on holiday at the time and was told to go queue up for a wristband and hope to get a ticket, which I did about 5 minutes before the game was die to begin.

The Sundin goal with the goalie pulled and the atmosphere in that last minute was me hooked on hockey.

As far as the Leafs go it's been glorious and not so glorious failure ever since and almost ten years now! That's hard to believe actually that it was so long ago.
