Game 46: MIN @ TOR - Jan. 19 - 7:00pm - TSN

You don't mention shutouts and no hitters to the players in the midst of one, that's the superstition. Well, it's a superstition.

Anyone know if Allaire (sp) teaches the "drop down and grab the post" method of stopping shots from the corner? Maybe they need to show them the stand up and face the puck style instead....oh yeah and Monster, please stay in your net and leave the puck alone! They sure dominated for quite a lot of the game though, good to see.

I've never seen a Leafs goaltending coach get blamed/questioned about individual goals against like Allaire does.

I'm not blaming him it was actually a question. I see a ton of goalies play like that and drop down against the post instead of just standing up and I wondered if it was something he teaches.
If he has been working a lot with Gus I think his angles have gotten better and I can see improvement from last year so kudos to Allaire.

It is better to crouch down a bit while hugging the post, but the pads have to remain together as well.  One other thing I would do is place my stick upright to block passes across the crease.  It forces the player to raise the shot, which gave me a better chance of stopping the shot.

Also, if a player had the puck behind my net, I would use the crouch and hug the post method, and again, have my stick out trying to block passes or shots from behind the net.  If the player tried to come out in front, I held my stick in a manner that allowed me to poke check the puck off the player's stick.  I also positioned myself that would allow me to quickly shift from left to right or vice versa.

IMHO the stand up position works best on breakaways as it can make the goalie look bigger, but every goalie is different and as a goalies develops, they prefer to play a certain style and it is very difficult to make a goalie change play style if he has been playing that way for a long time.
