Game 6 - Toronto Maple Leafs @ Boston Bruins L6-2

Say what you will about Komisarek but that may be one of the worst defensive plays I've seen in the past couple years and maybe be THE most pathetic display of "boxing-out" I've ever seen. Franson could use some time at Ricoh

Maybe there was a reason Nashville was willing to let him go...

FWIW Jim Ralph just made the same point Siegel made in his blog and many on here have made: we may have gotten 9/10 but there are plenty of holes in the team's performances.

Komi has been better than Franson and Schenn by a long shot this year.  There's no way he should be out of the line-up.

Well, Komi did have an interesting night last night. He wasn't without his lapses against the Jets.

No doubt.  But he's generally played with a lot of confidence and isn't fumbling around with the puck nearly as much as he did last year.  He's been tough and mean as well.  I think sitting him sends the wrong message.

That's the million dollar question.

It's hard to tell this year, since the team has really only had one game where they started well, but, I tend to lead towards it being the team having less confidence in Gustavsson than Gustavsson getting screwed. I just don't think they're comfortable with him in there. Whether it's a reflection on his play last year, the way he's reacted to mistakes in the past or something else, I don't know, but the team definitely has seemed to play better in front of other goalies for the past season+.

Although, in hindsight, looking at Boston's last game, and it being back-to-back, this sort of seems inevitable.  Kind of a tough situation for Gustavsson to come into for his first game, although that period was a team-wide problem.

Busta, I can't agree that it's a confidence issue in front of him.  It's an effort/execution issue.  Giving up 18 shots in the first period is just a bad effort, has nothing to do with feeling less confident.

Sounds like Gus is getting left to twist in the wind.
I don't agree. He needs to make a save and that first one was brutal...That got the Bruins going. Easy catch and he blew it...Second goal, while a laser by Chara, Gus was in the back of his net. Top of the crease, it hits him. 3rd goal while Franson was horrid, Gus took himself out of the play by scrambling around. Yes the Leafs haven't been great and I'm not laying this on Gus but he needs to step up to. He isn't the victim here....he's def had a part in the score.

Steckel has had trouble against Bergeron on the draw historically speaking and he knows it. Leafs aren't going to win in that area tonight.

I certainly rarely find Komisarek "soft". Franson, for his size, should not be that soft.

He does need to make a save, but he made many in that period.  It's not a situation where Boston's first chance of the game went in, ala Toskacroft.

There isn't a goalie in the league who would have stopped Chara's shot.  Gus was more than solid during the first period onslaught - it should have been much worse.

Really? You don't see how poor execution could very easily be the result of not having confidence in your goalie and, therefore, being more conscious about not making mistakes, which, as we all know, often leads to making more mitakes? Really?

I'm just saying look at the replay. If he was in proper position, top of the crease, it probably hits him. The first goal was brutal. Solid? If this is all you expect out of our goalies we'll stink. Yes he made saves, but he really needed to make that next big save. He hasn't done it. Reimer is successful because he can give up a stinker, but he will make that save when they need it. Gus needs to do the same, and I haven't sen it yet. He looks a little lost in there and that's not good.
