Game 62: Capitals @ Maple Leafs, 7:00 CBC

I hope they trade tonights entire 3rd line for picks and I don't care what round.

There should be a lot of guys saying goodbye to each other after tonight's game and I think they know it. This roster will look a lot different on Tueaday.

That's fine as long as Armstrong, Connoly and Lombardi are gone.

Burke must trade Grabovski now.  He also must fire Wilson immediately and appoint Eakins.  It would be a huge mistake to let him leave and be a head coach elsewhere.

I concur, particularly on the Eakins comment.

These last 20 games would give him NHL head coaching experience and would allow Leaf management to assess whether he is the right person to take over as the next coach on a full time basis.

I think we have to give up picks for AHLers to get rid of those guys at this point if it's even possible.

Yes, I can't help but notice that the Marlies are a strong defensive outfit, precisely the shortcoming of this team.  Get him in there now to get his feet wet.  This season is over.

I want Eakins, but I'd maybe bring in an interim coach and let
Dallas finish out the season with the Marlies, they've had a good run this year and shouldn't be penalised for the big Leafs failures.

It really isn't. I don't disagree with giving Eakins a shot, but that's probably not going to happen at this point. The Leafs are a three or four-game winning streak away from being right back in the thick of things though. Whether that happens or not, who knows, but the season is certainly not "over".

They're are farm team. I'm pretty sure the ownnership is more concerned with the Leafs than the Marlies.

I missed the Cassis Campbell interview, anyone have it or a run down of what was said?

She flat out asked what was going on with Nash, Dustin Brown and Grabovski. The exact same questions that everyone was wondering about. Burke didn't give much up but at least she didn't hold anything back and just kept going with it.

Then later came on to talk about whether Luke Schenn was available for a trade. She said that Burke gave her the "ok" to mention it.

Why can't all these guys that talk behind Burke's back do the same thing to his face?

You know, it probably doesn't make sense on reflection to bring Eakins in at this point.  Make no mistake, however, this season is over.  I'm afraid a four game winning streak is less likely than Wilson admitting he has ever made a mistake in his coaching career.

Its not even worth it to try and make adjustments to get this team into the playoffs, because theyd just squeak in and be trounced.

They should be shooting for top 4 in the conference, not crawling over the 8th place line.

Make any obvious upgrade trades but beyond that, let the season finish itself off and blow this up in the off season. Phaneuf is a good player, and maybe a decent guy to have in the dressing room but he's no Mark Messier and never will be. He's an assistant captain.

Kessel is another good complimentary player, but again ,not your go to guy.

This team lacks heart and leadership and it's painfully obvious to me at least. The last time the Leafs had any real success the team was stacked with guys like Roberts, Tucker, Corson, Domi, McCabe etc and while not always extremely talented in their own right, they didnt let the team get pushed around and didnt give up nearly as often and early as this team does.

Too many passengers on this team. Again. I feel like we've gone through this already.... oh, thats because we have. Where did all this truculence go anyway? Mike Brown is about the best example we have of that and he plays 4 minutes a night.

We really have been over all of this too many times before.  There isn't anything to be done about the lack of leadership right now.  My hope is that if they just stick with Reims that he'll get his confidence back in a few more games, and that the team will start to play better in front of a goalie they can trust.  If they stop letting in 2 quick goals at the start of just about every game, they have a shot.

But ugh.  2-7-1.  What the hell.

It's going to painful watching this team over the next few years.  The team is badly lacking in top end talent on the first 2 lines save for Kessel and Lupul.  10 forwards can be sent to the Marlies and replaced with 10 forwards from anywhere without any noticeable difference.  Our biggest FA signing last summer cant keep up with the play - someone needs to take responsibility for his signing.

The goalie issue is probably quicker to fix by bringing in a veteran.  I feel for both goalies - they have been miss handled.

The bright spot on the team is the defence.  Fransen, Liles, Gardner, Gunner and Phaneuf are all above average NHL'ers.

Given the above, Wilson must go.  Burke needs to bring in a veteran coach like what we had with Quinn.  I miss Pat Burns.

Leadership is overrated.

Well the leafs definitely aren't buyers. Problem is why would the 29 scouts in the stands want any of our garbage? They'd be after Gardiner and frattin.

I don't think that it was Reimers fault, I actually think that he played pretty decent. The problem is that some guys drop pucks in the wrong places, and they do it on a regular basis. And it doesn't help when you captain do stupid things in the wrong situations. We lack leaders. Especially up front.

I believe it's rubbish, not garbage.
