Game 70: TOR vs. FLA. Hard to believe...

I don't really think that's the case. I think it's more that others not doing their job doesn't excuse the goalie from doing his. You can only cut so much slack, and that runs out pretty fast when the routine saves aren't even being made.

This is all in general, of course.

Well, I certainly don't see anyone saying the goaltending has been good, just that they're not always the main culprit when a puck goes into the net, despite what some want to believe.

You can only circumvent the truth for so long until it's glaringly obvious.  Same thing happened with Wilson.  So many apologists for Wilson until he got fired.

But ultimately I don't blame Allaire for sticking around.  I blame Burke for not getting rid of him.  He ruined Gus and now he's ruined Reimer.  Please Mr. Allaire, ruin Scrivens too.  Ruin our whole goaltending prospectus for several decades.

Maybe he's here to sabotage the Leafs and the thick American can't see it.

Allaire is a Habs fan, enough said.

The leafs fall is not a bad thing.  This is such a deep deep draft - anywhere in the top part of the first round will get you a blue chipper.  Plenty of good forwards and d men that can play in the NHL now.  Only problem is leafs always find a way to screw it up.

Thank God Brian Burke elected to keep this group together rather than trading any of them away for any of the four first rounders offered.

That's another issue I have with Burke's mouth. Just shut up. When you have a team like this, and you say the above it just makes you look even more stupid. I know this was said before the semi hit the ground but he could have commented without giving us fans so much ammunition.

It's pretty hilarious really how much Burke has managed to eat his foot here.  From the infamous truculence quote to building on the softest teams in the league; from 'not a 5-year rebuild' to bottoming out again in year 3; from all the trade deadline BS to a team that just kept sinking after the day came and went.  He'd have a hard time running his mouth to sound like a bigger egomaniacal idiot if he tried.  Or maybe he is trying??

Oh and I almost forgot we went from "build from the net out" to going into year 3 of the not a 5-year rebuild with inexperienced goaltenders and comically inept defencemen.

Reimer ruined by Allaire
Agreed.....

Did Reimer really get worse under Allaire? He was a #99 pick and barely on the Leafs prospects radar when Allaire showed up.

In Reimer's first season with Allaire, after going 8W-15L-4OTL in his last season in Red Deer, he spent the bulk of that season in the ECHL posting a .904 save% and 3.30GAA. In his 3 games with the Marlies, he posted a .882 save%, 3.28GAA winning one game. He finished that season with a good playoff with South Carolina in the ECHL.

The kid has come a long way since Allaire showed up. I guess we'll find out next season if he was a half season wonder or this was a sophomore slump.

But I simply can't find a lot of fault with his progress under Allaire. I didn't think the guy had a prayer when I first saw him.

I am so disappointed with the way the Leafs season has gone by the wayside.  Not that I was expecting them to absolutely secure a playoff spot outright, but, to at least come very, very close, so that we could all have said that they could definitely make it the following year.

No, that didn't happen, plus, there is no guarantee that the Leafs will actually make the post-season next year either.

This team needs some fresh infusion of depth and talent in each position, be it a good puck-moving capable defenceman, a power forward, an agile winger, and a more steady, reliable experienced netminder.  Without any of these, I won't have my hopes set too high for next year neither.

Speaking on the subject of goaltending, Gustavvson has established himself to be the one who is most capable of greater improvement.
Reimer?  The jury is still out on him.  Some say it's his new (Allaire) style (a noticeable change from last season), while others think he's
'overrated' (when comparing last season's performance to this year's).

Say what you will, but one thing's for certain...changes will be coming to this team...for better or for worse.  That, is the question.

Time to clean house, again!  Let's start with this guy:
