I am utterly confused as to why people who love this team are chering for goals.  ???

Losing sucks?

That, and for many of us, no matter what we want for the team, it's practically impossible to cheer against them while there's a game going on.

I was cheering for Kessel to score on the partial break there in ot but other than that I was hoping The Rags won the SO.  Only turned on the game during 0T.

Not really.

Leafs can't win right or lose right. They appear doomed for mediocrity. The third pick is so much more valuable than the 7th that it is inconceivable to me that anyone wants them to win. Winning = a worse pick!  >:(

To Paraphrase Carl from Starship Troopers: "You disapprove? Well, too bad! We're in this for the Stanley Cup, boys and girls. It's simple numbers. They have better picks and we need them! And every day I have to make decisions that will determine how good that pick will be. So get used to it!!" Well...it was something like that. He sent ppl to their deaths. We just need our guys to fall on their swords....so to speak. :D

EDIT: That sounded better in my head....really.

These guys are professionals -- they're not going to lose on purpose as much as we want them to.

It seems as though Carlyle chats with his players more in one game than Wilson did his nearly four years here.  That has to count for something.

Obviously, you don't qualify as one of the "many of us."

I don't get it either. When I hear GO LEAFS GO while watching the game, it floors me. What are we GOing towards other than a bad draft pick?

Going into the draft with a high draft pick, whether we use it or trade it, is much better than going in with a much worse one so I just don't get it.

Wow, only 3 pages on a Saturday night for the GDT.

Also, Kessel with over 25 minutes, Bozak right there, Lombardi with 23, and Armstrong with 3:39. You wouldn't see that under Wilson.

And thank God for that. I actually want to see this team win a cup before I die.

Because hockey games are supposed to be FUN.  I really feel bad for those who have forgotten that somewhere along the way.  Besides, I don't see a tremendous difference between hoping they lose now so that they may have a slightly better chance of winning later, compared to hoping they win now, even if it means a slightly higher chance of losing later.

Making the playoffs is great, and winning the cup would be mind-blowingly awesome - it hasn't happened yet in my life time and I'm more than a third of the way in the grave, so the sooner, the better.  But still, it's fun to let all that big picture stuff slide and just enjoy a game of hockey.

Nothing wrong with that. I'm going on 40 years of being a fan and want to see the cup come "home." Going for 9th or 10th spot at the end of the season hasn't helped us much towards getting there.

It hasn't even gotten us into the playoffs for how many years now?

If that's all you want then I don't have a problem with that. Enjoy every game as if it's the only one that matters. Maybe I should look at it that way and I wouldn't be so frustrated with the whole picture.

Actually I can't see that happening for me.
