I blame refs, Franson goal was perfectly OK, Kadri was not intefering Rask.

The Bruins could fault the refs just as well though, their disallowed goal was even worse I think.

I still blame Reimer for that goal. He has to block those cross crease passes. Use your stick man! Other than that, fantastic game on his part.

It would be one thing if he was the only goalie in the league who didn't do that, but none of them seem to. That's just not how they're trained these days.

Then I blame Rick St. Croix.  ;)

Kostka leads all players in ice-time with 27:37. Phaneuf also over 27 minutes. Chara only played 21:33. What happened to managing the ice time for those two a little better? There was no reason for those two to be that high.
Why are we ragging on the defense when they held Boston to only 1 goal?  It's the forwards that were the problem tonight.  Kessel is always invisible against Boston, it's pathetic.

Defense was decent. Gave up a lot of chances but Reimer bailed them out. Leafs need Lupul back really bad! Kulie looked decent tonight though. Had some chances.

You can blame Phaneuf for Lupul being out. I do and it makes me feel better.

Nonis rection was telling

Missed it what was his reaction?

I am not a lip reader, but judging by his gestures, first he was angry as if he were saying WTF was that (Kostka stupid penalty) followed by the hand sweep in resignation as if he were saying oh well, we are done.

Maybe he was saying "why couldn't I have talked Burke out of that Kessel trade?"

0 goals and our top left wing taken out we'd be better off if Phaneuf wasn't allowed to shoot

Yeah I'm really looking for a reason to like Phaneuf so far this season and I can't.

Reimer had no chance on that goal.  It was 100% the Leafs' defenceman's fault.

I don't mind Phaneuf this year.  He's logging a lot of minutes and I'm not really noticing him on most nights which is a good thing.  His one drawback is that he's slow.  Other than that he is an elite player IMO.  I like him paired with Koska as well; I just think they should be playing 5 minutes less per game.

This was one of those games where those of us who witnessed Wendel Clark, Doug Gilmour or Mats Sundin play were just waiting for someone to make an impact, to just drag the team back into the game like one of those guys would do so frequently. Unfortunately, no such player is currently employed by the Maple Leafs and it's kind of sad.

That said, Reimer was fantastic. I was worried he might get shelled by the Bruins and his confidence would take a hit, but if anything, this was exactly the type of game that he can build on. Great job from Optimus Reim. (Feels good to call him that again...)

So I don't think the Bozak Kessel pairing is working Randy. I know you want them on the ice, 100% of the time, PP's and all, but you have to change that up. Grabs with Kessel or Kadri. There is absolutely no reason to keep that mess of a 'first' line together.

Anyway great game from Reimer. And that Franson non-goal was robbery. That is all.

Not too bad a game from our Leafs, better than being blown out.

Two things though, why were Steckel, Orr, and McLaren on the ice in the third? Almost cost us another goal. And Kostka on the PP, better options with Liles and Franson at the moment.

Absolutely no reason for that line to have played more than 2 minutes. Other than Steckel, that line is a joke.

I don't get why Carlyle doesn't, at the very least, mix up the PP a bit. His top line is his top PP line. His top 2 D pairing is his top PP D pairing. Phaneuf can't keep playing nearly 30 mins a game; the fact Kostka is near that mark is absolutely mind-boggling.

Two simple things Carlyle could do:

1.  Cut Phaneuf & Kostka's TOI to about 20 to 22 minutes, tops.
2.  You can accomplish the above by taking Phaneuf off the #1 PP unit and Kostka off it entirely.  Try Franson & Liles as #1 and Gunnar/Phaneuf as #2 and then work Gardiner in when he gets back.  Franson is way more effective on a point shot than Phaneuf -- keeps it low and more accurate.

Toronto (4-4-0) turned the puck over too often at the Boston blue-line, got bottled up in the neutral ice "and they started to grind us," he concluded.

"That's the way they play and they're a good team," said Carlyle. "They did what they had to do to be effective to play a road game and we didn't do enough of the things that we're capable of to establish a strong home game in the 60 minutes."

Said Reimer: "They made a nice play, good for them, and they got one (goal). I thought we battled hard and we had some chances and we could have tied it, could have won it. But it wasn't in the cards for us tonight."

That was our type of hockey defensively, and for the most part offensively, too," said Boston goalie  Tuuka Rask

The Beuins gave the Leafs some trouble in the neutral zone which bottled the Leafs offensive game and thus, their speed as well.  Smart defensive game by the Bruins.  They knew what was required to stop the speedy Leafs.

Reimer played solidly.  Too bad the offence couldn't provide him with at least a goal or two.  Must find a way to beat teams like Boston.  M-u-s-t!!

On the Kessel front, he'll come around to scoring soon.  Getting closer with each passing game.
