I still blame Reimer for that goal. He has to block those cross crease passes. Use your stick man! Other than that, fantastic game on his part.
Reimer had no chance on that goal.  It was 100% the Leafs' defenceman's fault.

He had a chance to block the pass. Pucks shouldn't get through the blue paint like that.

This was one of those games where those of us who witnessed Wendel Clark, Doug Gilmour or Mats Sundin play were just waiting for someone to make an impact, to just drag the team back into the game like one of those guys would do so frequently. Unfortunately, no such player is currently employed by the Maple Leafs and it's kind of sad.

I was thinking the same while watching the game.

Good effort by Komarov, Reimer, JVR, Kadri, Kessel, Kulemin, but where is THE guy to break this open.

A game like tonight makes the Leafs look only one player away from being able to compete at the next level.

They're looking a lot better than last year, pretty solid effort there last night.

I think Franson is also starting to come out of his shell a bit too, he made a few pretty nice plays.

He really should be on the PP over Kostka if it isn't going to be Liles (I wasn't thrilled with Phaneuf-Liles last year).

From the broadcast last night: Kessel trade, Kessel drought, Chara is big, Chara long stick, Seguin, Dougie Hamilton Leafs, Dougie Hamilton first round pick, Kessel drought, big Chara, RASK, Dougie, Seguin and Dougie Hamilton, Kessel hasn't scored, can't beat Chara, Chara long shifts, who did the Leafs trade for Kessel?, Chara mean, Chara angry, Kessel can't score, weak on puck, CHARA ANGRY.

Not a win, but all things considered, it was a moral victory. Something to build on for sure. If they can beat them next game, then most people would be pretty happy about it, myself included. #babysteps

Good game. Deon I found was slow and doing more watching then playing. also my guess is he was spoken to regurding his missing the net. he seemed to be slowing the shots down, and passing instead of shooting.
Jvr needs to step it up a bit as well, otherwise leafs made it a game. ;D

Not sure how much of a "moral victory" and I used the term jokingly last night. Bruins had far better chances and if not for Reimer playing very well it could have easily been 3 or 4-0.

Kostka leads all players in ice-time with 27:37. Phaneuf also over 27 minutes. Chara only played 21:33. What happened to managing the ice time for those two a little better? There was no reason for those two to be that high.
Why are we ragging on the defense when they held Boston to only 1 goal?  It's the forwards that were the problem tonight.  Kessel is always invisible against Boston, it's pathetic.

Defense was decent. Gave up a lot of chances but Reimer bailed them out. Leafs need Lupul back really bad! Kulie looked decent tonight though. Had some chances.

You can blame Phaneuf for Lupul being out. I do and it makes me feel better.

0 goals and our top left wing taken out we'd be better off if Phaneuf wasn't allowed to shoot

Yeah I'm really looking for a reason to like Phaneuf so far this season and I can't.

Seriously?  He's played huge, tough minutes nightly.  He's been facing among the toughest competition (Komisarek is actually facing the toughest among D, but he's only played half the games) and is only starting 45% of shifts in the offensive zone (last year he started 50% in the offensive zone).

Perhaps look beyond goals and assists and you'll find plenty to be pleased with about Phaneuf's start to the season.

I've actually never been a Phaneuf supporter but I like what he's done defensively this year. He seems quieter. Less likely to chase the puck and that's good. The less we see/hear of him, the better in that sense.

Offensively is seriously lacking so far...but I'll take some solid defense from him over the offense if it means less chances by the opposing teams top lines.

Much like with Kessel, the team's SH% with them on the ice has been among the lowest on the team.  It'll change one of these games and something will start going in, so you'll see him start getting some points.  It's just a slump for both of them, made out to seem worse because it's the first 8 games rather than 8 games in the middle of a season (not that it still wouldn't get notice or anything).

I also really don't understand this rule. So goaltender interference is called to waive off a goal, but then why isn't a goaltender interference penalty called? How is it not a penalty just because a goal was scored?

And since they clearly see a difference between interfering with a goalie when a goal is scored and doing it when a goal isn't scored, why can't that be looked at upstairs?

I know these questions have been asked and this rule has been complained about forever, but it's still very annoying.

I know I'm late, but just been reading through the thread and didn't see anyone reply to you.

A goal can be waived off for deliberate or incidental conduct, because the rationale is that a goal shouldn't be allowed if the attacking player interfered with the goalie's ability to make the save.  A penalty comes into play when the player has made deliberate/intentional contact with the goalie (I'm guessing this also includes failing to attempt to avoid contact).  If it is incidental, the rationale is that the goal shouldn't count because the goalie was prevented from making the save, but that since it was incidental the attacking player shouldn't be penalized for it.

I rather see the defense do their job and the offense being exposed for what it is then having the defense having to compensate for the lack of offense.  The fact that the Leaf's #1 center is listed at 271st in shots shows there's a HUGE problem.  Giving the puck to Kessel isn't enough.  In war, if you knew exactly what the enemy troops were going to do, it would be a huge advantage.  A first line should be able to do the unexpected.

Glenn Healy is awful, awful, awful.
Still mad about that disallowed goal.

+100

What is the CBC's infatuation with Healy?  He comes across as such a hack.  Blatent bias against the LEafs, really seems to add nothing to the commentary, is rude and self-righteous, and frankly doesn't belong on the Hotstove.
