I have no idea why people cheered the team at the end of the game. If there was ever a time when the team deserved to be booed then this was it. A pathetic season being capped off by captain fantastic getting a meaningless overtime winner and celebrating like it was a 7th game in the playoffs. The Leafs cost themselves a great draft pick last night. What will they do Saturday? Fall even further? And if so, pardon me for not cheering!

That's just not true. The Leafs' draft position didn't change last night and even had they lost in regulation, the best they could end up with after Saturday would have been 4th overall going into the lottery which is still the best they could end up with even after having won last night.

It's been beat to death, some people like like to see leafs win no matter what, some people like to cheer for the draft pick.

We don't need to rehash this argument every time the leafs get a point.

A whole team finding ways to win v.s. a couple of places in a draft?  Put it this way, do you think there will be a better player taken later then the guy the Leafs pick?  Now does it matter?  If this was the difference between a Crosby or not, maybe.  Chances are, a guy like Colborne and/or Kadri will develop to #1 center status before any 2012 pick hits the ice.  The draft won't fix any current problems.  No 18 year old is going to rescue the franchise.

Especially when we're talking about people actually at the game. Atmosphere, social cues and all that stuff has a very significant impact on the actions of those who are there. Seriously, it's like the people who bring it up have never actually been to see a game live and in person.

Short term pleasures.

Short term pleasures? What are you even talking about? Do you honestly think the difference between drafting 6th or 5th is notable? And that it would in any way make me happier?

And for Phaneuf; that was his first goal in 9 games and only his second in 20 games. I'm probably going out on a limb here, but he probably enjoys scoring goals, particularly those that win a game in overtime. Would you preferred they played like zombies and just shrug after winning a game?

What i can't understand is how you can't understand someone being happy or excited over an overtime winner.

Guess what?! I enjoy eating jujubes even when I know it'll cause me to gain weight down the road! But, I'm just shortsighted, I suppose.

Maybe we should comment on the piss poor opening post on the GDT.  That was a sore issue with someone at the beginning of the year.  I'm personally very offended by the lack of effort.

You are quite right. I cannot argue with you there.

Yes.

How about the difference between 5th and 5th? Since, you know, the Leafs went into the game sitting 5th and, when all was said and done, they're sitting in 5th.

Or played any sport ever, it's exciting to win a game, no matter how "meaningless" it is to people observing it.

I gather that this is a bit complicated for you, but try this...... What spot would they have been in if they had lost? Do you follow now?

Yes, they would have been in 4th with a best case scenario of heading into the lottery in 4th. Instead, they're in 5th, with a best case scenario of heading into the lottery in 4th. The difference is really marginal, at best.

I can. I can also understand the concept of an appropriate and measured response. I've been a Blue Jays fan long enough to know the difference that you usually see when a team wins a meaningless game vs. a meaningful one.

Pathetic display by Gardiner there.

Was there a reason Colborne didn't play? Steckel coming back?

Not sure why people are down on Dion, he wore a Leafs hat after the game n'all...
