General Leafs Rumour Updates...

I think adding a Stastny would improve secondary scoring more than a Michalek.

I don't. Stastny impacts the primary scoring, but, all he really does is drop Bozak down to a line where he's no longer playing with elite wingers, while taking away a lot of cap space. Bozak's never hit 50 points playing with Kessel. How well do you think he's going to do playing with 3rd liners?

Well, not that there's much of a possibility of it happening, but that's why you suck up the cap issue and play Stastny on the second line for now, he can drive a line, Bozak can't. Things can change in a year or two and having a talent like Stastny would be better than not, barring true cap hell.

Assuming the Leafs give up on Reimer, they are giving up on a goaltender who put up a .911 SV% this year.

Martin Brodeur hasn't had a SV% >.910 since 2009-2010.  He has a .904 SV% over the past 4 seasons (his best over that stretch was .908).

Unless the Leafs have interest in Brodeur as a goalie coach, I'm just baffled...well I'm not really but it's a bad move regardless.  Even if Brodeur wanted to play for the league minimum, it's a terrible move.

Brodeur makes no sense to me at all. He's skills are seriously diminished, and he didn't strike me as the ideal team guy in interviews when splitting time with Schneider.

I assumed that they were going to get a pick for Reimer, and have McIntyre play backup for 700K.

Among the interested teams in Brodeur: Chicago, Boston, Pittsburgh & Toronto. Brodeur wants to go to a contender.

#Leafs GM Dave Nonis on James Reimer. ?He?s a good goalie and he has the ability to start. I wouldn?t rule out him coming back.?

The Leafs lets the opposition shoot from the outside.  Save percentage doesn't tell all, unless there's some way you can add quality of shots faced.  That being said, I'd sign Brodeur.  Good mentor, and you hope he fails, because winning isn't going to make this team better.

The shot charts show the bolded to not be true. A huge percentage of the shots the Leafs allowed were from high percentage shooting areas. The "shots coming from the outside" narrative is a falsehood the front office liked to preach to the media. As for Brodeur being a mentor - I just don't see it. He was put in a position to be with Schneider last season, and, instead, complained openly about his ice time and showed his "me first" attitude. Just because a guy was a great player doesn't mean he'll be a great mentor.

Some rumblings of the Preds trying to move Del Zotto, he'd be a decent replacement for Franson, no?

I think that Franson is somewhat redundant on the team, and replacing Franson with Del Zotto would not remove this redundancy.

Haven't heard anything regarding Paul Ranger. Any chance he comes back at a decent price for another year?

I thought he was finally coming around toward the end of the season, when everyone else seemed to be falling off.

I don't care about Reimer's save percentage.  It's meaningless without wins.  Reimer did not play well enough down the stretch to record a WIN for us when he started when our #1 goalie went down (i.e. when we needed him the most).  When Bernier went down, Reimer inherited the #3 team in the conference and by the time he was done, they were well  behind that pace, with no other noticeable change to the way they were playing the previous 4 months.

Let's not kid ourselves - if he is going to be moved, this is why he is going to be moved.

So, hypothetically speaking, you would take a goalie with an .880 SV% who is 10-0 over a goalie with a .920 SV% who is 0-10 then?

Honestly - Don't know - need more context and information.

What styles do their teams play?  What do their histories tell us of their future performance?  What are their respective GAA's?  Who were their opponents?  Where were the goals allowed scored from - were any of them back breakers?  What were the final scores in the games?  Is one of them 25 and the other 42 years old?  Does one of them have multiple stanley cups, and the other hasn't won a stanley cup round?

I see what you are trying to do, but all I'm saying is that Reimer with his great SVP (which it was), was not able to make the BIG SAVE and help us win a game, when we needed him to to help us win a game and change momentum when our #1 goalie went down.
