Goaltending conundrum

x.jr.benchwarmer had a point.  He stated "whether it is average or not", and clearly, in this case, it is not.

And, like I said, the idea that there's room for Gus to improve upon his current numbers is one nobody would dispute. I responded to something specific and narrow. If Gus is going to be held up to the average, we should have an idea of what the average is. Leaving aside the fact that team defensive play impacts save percentage there's just the simple reality that Gus isn't miles away from the average. The difference between Gus and the average cited in the original post is three times greater than what the actual difference is. It wasn't a fair comparison. I pointed that out simply and without rancor or insult.

If that "cuts someone up, figuratively speaking" then they have much bigger issues than what gets said to them on a message board.

No, there are no bigger issues anywhere, other than the ones I stated to you.

It is not always what one says, but, how one says it, which prompted one poster to call you a bad name, thinking that you were trying to belittle the other.  However, you've made yourself very clear.

I'm fine and well with that.

How can you tell when they're all saying the same thing?

D-E-E-P

You obviously don't know them. They never agree on anything.

Are they English speaking?

Some of them.

Haha...and the others?

Oh, it's a regular United Nations meeting up in there. Lots of yelling, a wide variety of languages, and nothing being accomplished.

You should probably check your mail more often. Those debt collectors aren't kidding around anymore.

Maybe I am and maybe I'm not. Either way, there is money that is owed. By you.

Can you ask the voices who I should make the cheque payable to?

What's Gus' wins-per-start?  Must be pretty favourable in comparison with other goaltenders.

Downright Raycroftian...but at this point, I like wins...also he's been playing well.  I hope he's starting.

5-1 in his last 6 starts. Gustavsson's problem seems to be more of a mental thing though. I just hope that his confidence hasn't lowered at all with Reimer coming back. I'd definitely play him against Carolina and if he keeps winning ride him while he's hot.

I think the challenge with Gus was getting on a roll. It took quite a while but once he got things in gear he was very solid.  It could be what prevents him from sticking as a backup if he can't come in for 1 game every 8-10 days and play up to snuff.

The challenge now is getting Reimer enough games to get himself back up to speed and not letting Gus get rusty on the bench, which may already have happened.

Only 2 games in the next 9 days isn't going to help matters.

And the Leafs don't have a lot of wiggle room to allow for anyone to get up to speed. They need wins to stay in the playoff race.

There is no conundrum.  Give Reimer a few more starts and if he seems shaky then let Gus have a few.

Thank goodness Burke didn't bring in a vet.  Let's find out what we've got with these 2 guys, and let the playoffs chips fall where they may.

small sample size of course...but i don't really like that the leafs penalty kill sucked at the start of the year......gets better under gustavsson ...and then goes right back to crap with reimer in net...

Agree with this 100%.
