Greg McKegg

I like that Grabovski is progressing, the year he had the wrist injury seems like an anomaly and he overcame a fairly slow start this year in spite of another decent injury too, little guy's tough.

I'm not sure anyone could peg him as more than a good second line centre but that's saying quite a lot on its own.

I hope he re-signs for something reasonable but I'm not sure it should have anything to do with jumping into Datsyuk territory, that's asking a lot.

If recent history is any indicator, McKegg will be trade bait this year or next.

And what recent history is that?

Yeah not sure what trade he is referring too, the Didomenico package perhaps?

We trade away virtually all of our draft picks, either as picks or as first or second year pros.

Brad Boyes, Steen, Tlusty, Rask, Stalburg and Paradis to name a few. Hell you can go all the way back to the first year of the draft when we traded away our first player ever drafted - Walt McKechnie and earlier to before there was a draft to the deal that sent Rod Seiling to the Rangers.

When I start reading suggestions that the Leafs are not sold on McKegg's skating ability, it leads me to the opinion that he will be dealt.

And yet after all of these years of futility, there is still no management decision to build through the draft.

Well, I hate to bring up Detroit because they're both extremely lucky and good in this department but go back and see how many 1st round picks they've traded away over the last 12 years... It'll shock you.

Steen played 3 and a quarter seasons for the Leafs.  Don't miss Boyes.

Stajan, Gunnarsson, Kulemin, Schenn, White to name a few of the picks we've kept longer than 1 or 2 seasons recently.

And Philippe Paradis (who wasn't even our pick)? Seriously?

Okay so I was wrong about Paradis, but I can replace that name with Carlo Colaiacovo... plus the others still stand as examples of how we have consistently traded away our draft picks and our draft choices early in their pro careers. Players like Sittler and Clark are exceptions when they should be the rule.

What has all of this trading accomplished?

That is the question.

Sure from time to time you win a trade (even a blind squirrel can find an acorn on occasion). More often you lose or break even, How far back did the trades for Nolan, for Raycroft, and for Toskala put us?

The fact is that trading works best when it is a matter of filling in a weak spot on an already solid roster. It is not an effective way to build a team.

Who is next to go, Blacker, Percy or McKegg?

I don't know but history indicates o one or all of them will be dealt early in their Leaf careers.

IMO, we would have been farther ahead at this point if our roster included the two 1sts we traded away for goalies as well as Rask and Tyler Seguin with Dougie Hamilton on deck.

Lucky Steen, he made it 3 years. If that was an isolated trade then it would be of no consequence. It is, however, part of a pattern.

If you never traded away or cut loose on any of the players that you drafted, the organisation roster would be bursting at the seams eh.

Before the lock-out, the Leafs went into the playoffs with guys like: -Sundin, Francis, Antropov, Nieuwendyk, Roberts, Nolan, Mogilny, Ponikarovsky, Renberg, Leetch, McCabe, Kaberle, Klee, Belfour.  If it weren't for injuries that year... who knows.  Now look at the young players the Leafs gave up on in those times... they don't hold a candle to these guys.
The Leafs world turned upside down.  And since then, you see a change in attitude as they work on developing guys like Kulemin, Reimer, Holzer, Frattin, Gunnarsson, Schenn, Kadri.  Added one of the best goalie coaches.  The Leafs are developing talent, I think they can afford to deal some youth.  However I don't want to see any of the top prospects dealt either.

I never said "never", what I said was that we have a history of trading away draft picks and draft choices that has not served us well.

Call me when this organization is bursting at the seams with prospects (I realize you said "players" but you know we have lots of those, it is bona fide prospects that we lack).

Upper body injury.  He'll be back before the end of the playoffs if the Knights keep going, but the Hunters always were more cautious with injured players.  If they are hurt, they sit out.

As an aside though, McKegg has been really uninspiring for the Knights in the postseason.  He's been good, but certainly hasn't looked like he has an extra gear which is kind of disappointing for his long-term prospects.

Good to see him score but i think it is a bit of a stretch to call it a beauty...Domi did all the work on that one and Mckegg just ended up in the right place at the right time.

Unless he can drastically improve his skating somehow, I really don't see a future for Mckegg in the NHL at all.  His agility and speed seem below average at the CHL level.
