Gustavsson traded to Winnipeg, now signs with Detroit

Jonas Gustavsson had as much to do with Jonas Gustavsson not succeeding as much as the Leafs did. A goaltender isn't suddenly a "good" goaltender if he puts up average numbers on a stingy team.

This. I can see Gustavsson being a decent backup in Detroit, but, that has less to do with him improving in terms of putting things together and more to do with Detroit being a pretty darn good team to play behind.

Yeah.  This is how the Leafs ruin players.  They just plain suck.  Detroit rehabilitates other teams' failures.

Allaire has now ruined 3 goalies...going on 4.

This should be filed under the "who cares?" category. Gustavsson may not have been the problem, but he sure as heck wasn't the solution. Good luck in Detroit.

Jonas has the potential and talent to supplant Howard as the No 1 by the 2nd year of this deal. He was playing really well in the first half of his 3 years here, and then the wheels fell off. I wish him well.

Very happy for Jonas, betcha he's been in their heads since that two on none save in exhibition...

frivolous prediction, Jonas stones the Leafs in the classic...

The weird thing about this signing is back when the Leafs and other teams were trying to get Gustavsson, I remember Holland being asked why he didn't bother. His reply was something along the lines of...........he's just not very good.

You just know Gustavsson is going to work out well for Detroit. Just because it's them.

Honestly, you could flip our team with their's and somehow they'd still be near the top of the standings and thought of as a serious cup contender.

Forgot about that.  Guess he really wanted to be part of the outdoor game.  ;D

I'd be surprised if Detroit didn't make at least some of the players around them better with arguably the best defense man and two way forward of their generations on the team.

But Detroit shelters certain players. Our view of Detroit is one of rose colored glasses because they are the haves and we are the have nots. Interesting how Burke's track record in Van and Anaheim are thrown out the window and our whole staff are morons using the reason "because its Toronto."

You must've also forgotten that Allaire helped Roy and Jiggy win a cup.

Funny how the players that don't play well are poor players when they play for us and the minute they're moved the excuse is they were misused. I guess people really can rationalize anything.

Still part of the entire experience along with the HBO show.

Gus will do really well in Detroit, he may start as a back-up, but under their system he may turn out to be a stable #1, if Osgood can, why not Gus?

Because Osgood was actually an average goaltender.

Osgood's numbers in his time with NYI and the Blues aren't anything to write home about. The only place he really played well is Detroit and even then his career SV% is .905 and Gus was only 3 points off that last year, playing behind a terrible defense.

Well, it's not like Detroit fixed Osgood or turned his career around or anything. They drafted and developed him and played him behind a roster that, for a large portion of his career there, was better than the roster that they have now.

Ok, but at the same time, would you not then argue that it's less about Osgood thriving and more him riding on the coattails of far superior players?
