Good shift from Bodie. This guy is a keeper.

Pretty fast skater for a rangy guy.

He's exactly the type of 4th liner teams need. Skates well, hits hard, and can chip a goal here and there. He's a guy you can give 10 minutes a night without much concern.

Gardiner is looking great again tonight. He's showing flashes of dominance, like he did in the playoffs last season. Bolland is also having a good first game back. These would be a huge two points to get!

Except he's been caught deep 3 times, two leading to habs 2-1's, and their 2nd goal (Borque)

There's only one player on this team that I would want carrying the puck into the offensive zone over Gardiner, and that's Kessel. So if Gardiner has a chance to lug it he needs to. And right now it looks like Randy has given the green light to do so. The forwards need to do a better job recognizing when Gardiner is on the ice and when he's jumping up.

Totally agree - I'd love to see him and Reilly gathering up speed and getting the zone (and another crossbar!). But playing extended time in deep not a good idea, and that's when they've been caught. Thumbs up to Carlyle to letting them both play to their strengths.

Awesome,  couldn't get home very quickly,  then I couldn't find the remote for the last few minutes,  finally found it and there was 7 seconds left in the period.

Rielly?

Notwithstanding everything that is happening in this game, the Leafs still have a chance...

It would be so refreshing (surprising?)  if Carlyle played both Gardiner and Reilly on the first PowerPlay unit.  They are the guys who really generate offensive chances, and it might help change some of the dynamic.  Rhetorically, what do they gain by continually playing Franson and Phaneuf, especially if the PowerPlay is struggling?

And speaking of struggling, IMHO, Reimer isn't playing all that much differently now as he has basically since approximately December.

And Reimer right now sits at 42nd (out of 45 goaltenders) in save percentage at 3.29.  And he is 31st (again out of 45 goaltenders) in save percentage at .910.  These numbers alone suggest that he is just simply not a #1 goalie.  And aside from the media-driven controversy, it really hasn't been that much of a dispute about starting Bernier the vast majority of the games because he is simply that much better, in so many aspects of the game, IMHO.

Phaneuf and Franson on their weak sides create two good one-timer opportunities in a span of about 5 seconds. Puck goes out and they go back to their strong sides.
