Holzer demoted - Gardiner called up

This is good news. I really hope Eakins has helped Gardiner with his defensive game, and he sticks the rest of the way.

Once he plays 3 more games, he'll have to go through waivers. If he's still with the team on Saturday, he's not going back to the Marlies.

I would assume that Jake is back for good. Good to see him push the Leafs hand, although getting Rielly in a Marlies uni probably made this a little easier.

Unless of course he's being showcased for a trade?

ie Lets see Jake play up before we give you Perry.....

Well. Ok. Except Perry just signed a contract with a NMC. He's staying in Anaheim. Any better examples?

I think the writing was on the wall for Holzer when the coach didn't even have enough faith in him to put him ahead of Grabo in the shootout.

That would go over like a Nuclear meltdown in Anaheim.

Beauchemin FOR Lupul and Perry

p.s. Good line sarge.

I didn't know that.

So maybe that's why they were keeping him down...to get as much of an education as possible given that he won't be back.

Nonis doing the radio talk show shuck and jive right now.  Was on 590, currently on 1050..

Nonis told a Toronto radio station on Tuesday the 22-year-old would be available to play for coach Randy Carlyle Wednesday if ?he chooses to put him in.?

?The #FreeJakeGardiner tweet, Jake had nothing to do with that,? Nonis told Sportsnet 590 The FAN on Tuesday. ?You don?t hold that against a player. And you also don?t recall him because of it. Jake is recalled because he?s played well enough to be an option for us, to possibly be in the lineup and help the offensive part of our game.?

?Gard?s game has improved dramatically in the last 10 days to two weeks,? Nonis told the FAN. ?He?s kind of shown a lot of the speed ? puck-carrying, power-play ability ? that he showed last year. He was able to sustain it for three, four, five games in a row and became a real option for us.?

I've got a sneaking suspicion that Randy inserts Kostka ahead of Gardiner and twitter explodes with a foamy rage not seen since Grabo was left out of the shootout.

And now we dance the dance of joy...

Finally Holzer is back down to hopefully learn how to play better D. I hope the pressure isn't thrown on Gard's shoulders too much.

I like it, but who plays with who now? Seemed like musical chairs at practice today.

Potentially:

Phaneuf - Gunnarsson
Liles - Gardiner
Franson - Fraser

They didn't play a ton last season together, but when they did they did well, and Phaneuf-Gardiner could work.  Maybe not the way Carlyle has been using Phaneuf this season, though.

Gunnarsson/ Phaneuf
Gardiner/ Franson
Fraser or Liles/ Kostka

I think that is how it has to line up, with the left/ right shot thing. Maybe have Gardiner and Liles on the 2nd PP unit and keep Franson/ Phaneuf on the 1st.
