Idiocracy 2024

Trump pulls the US out of the WHO.
Trump ends birthright citizenship with an executive order (you can't do that to Constitutional amendments)

This is going to be a shitshow

As a former X (formerly Twitter) employee on an H1B visa, I can't reveal my identity without risking everything, but I can't stay silent any longer about what I saw and was made to do.

When Elon Musk took over, everything changed. What started as a social media company became something much darker. I was part of a team that was directly ordered to manipulate Twitter's systems to influence the 2024 US presidential election. It wasn't subtle, and it wasn't ethical.

No duh

It became patently obvious that once he got rid of everyone from Twitter and became a free speech absolutist while cracking down on things he disagreed with that he didn't care to make Twitter better, but to use it as a right wing outrage machine.

Make sure everyone refers to him as President Musk* and give him all the credit for winning the election.

* yes, I know there is a puppet master up his butt; a human centipede broligarchy, if you will.

Cool. Good times over there. I’m really hoping this wave of fundamentalism and racism stokes some patriotism and pride in the true Canadian way of life and rally against this trend. I have to believe, in my heart, that the vast majority of Canadians are not on board with this.

But my god, what a shit show. We are witnessing history in one of the worst ways.

Good. Nip the republican useless fishing trips in the bud before they can waste the time they should be spending actually governing the country.
Fauci's $15,000,000 per year security detail and drivers paid by the government now canceled. So Trump is already saving resources.

I have never seen a politician execute as rapidly as the pace since Nov 6th. And he actually is delivering on pre-election promises, which I didn't expect TBH.

I had initially planned a reasoned response to this until I realized I was spending time I'd never get back.

That’s a drop in the bucket in terms of how much the US government spends. It’s a rounding error. It’s not saving resources. It’s pettiness.

You understand what the implication here is right? This has absolutely nothing to do with cost savings.

Honestly I know I’m completely wasting my time typing this.

Elon has already eliminated $420,000,000 off the federal budget during the first week.

Over the past 20 years, he took a government agency and reduced the costs by 90 to 95%. Meaning every $100 spent before by NASA, now he is able to accomplish with about $5 with SpaceX. SpaceX in its short history has put more objects into orbit than US, USSR/Russia, China, India, France combined!

I hope he can shrink federal spending by 20% to 30% to make US more stable and reduce taxes.

And maybe Canada can learn from that too. Carbon Tax, Capital Gains to 66.7% and Toronto City Tax increase is the true Idiocracy.

touché.

A career journalist became Finance Minister.
Because it's always about Trudeau  Can't wait for the next guy to accumulate scar tissue and failures and see everyone contort themselves as to why it's actually totally fine, instead of being critical and impartial. And I really don't care for Chrystia Freeland and hope she doesn't win the Liberal nom, but it's very telling that you completely glossed over the fact that she worked in multiple capacities at the Financial Times and wrote books on Russia's move from communism to capitalism and one on Plutocracy. She was also a Rhodes scholar so you characterization of her as a "journalist" truly shows you're not willing to truly look at facts, but your views on Trump already told me that. It's funny really because I've been contemplating who to vote for in the next election as someone who's voted for every major political party in the past, and it's this dogmatic crap (the right falls in line) from hardcore conservative voters that really puts me off voting conservative.

Speaking of people not qualified to be in positions of power, we can see this play out right now in the US. RFK jr. is going to be a disastrous pick who's been a kook on so many topics on health (yes, every broken clock is right twice a day, but on the whole his ideas are not scientifically backed). "BUT HE'S JUST ASKING QUESTIONS!" Right. And coming to conclusions so wrong that his own family is disowning him. In this case I'd rather have a reasonably rational journalist at the post than a pernicious lawyer.

Anyway, there's really no purpose in arguing with a Trumper, especially a Canadian one when he's threatening Canada the way he has. I've never really agreed with the Toronto Sun, but I agree with the article below. And now I'm done with this thread.
