and Rosen is coming, wonder if the experiment with Dermott on the Right side will continue, they need someone good there.

Muzzin-Rielly
Gardiner-Dermott
Rosen-Hainsey

playoffs pairings hmm?

No way Zaitsev sits.

I know it's about as likely as Babcock wearing assless chaps behind the bench but c'mon man, agree with me for once.
Ok fine, 3rd pair Hainsey-Zaitsev.

I don't want to be over optimistic but Zaitsev and Muzz have looked pretty good together lately. I hope they have started to gel. I'm not counting on Gardiner being back for the playoffs just yet. That would def change things up tho if he did.

Rielly is not going back to the right side:  Babs has spoken

Although, we have seen both Muzz and Rielly on the right side the past few games but only for very few shifts. Haha, like the Babs has spoken!

So does Rosen get called up then or does getting Dermott and potentially Gardiner put that on hold?

Rosen is a better alternative to Marincin and Oz. Anyone know if has tried to play the RHS at all?  I think Dermott can make the switch?

I imagine they'd want to get Rosen into a game or two, just to help get him start to adjust to the NHL pace in case the need him in the playoffs.

Yeah, Babcock probably just wants to determine who the #7 defenceman is going into playoffs. If Rosen impresses in his little audition then he jumps ahead of Marincin/Oz/Holl and becomes first in line if an injury hits.

I think you're both right here.  I think the lack of puck-moving guys in the lineup, and its effect over the past couple of weeks, has Rosen being that back-up guy, as long as he doesn't shit the bed in his likely very protected minutes audition.

The Rosen thing is interesting to me. Is the consensus that he's played himself into the 1st alternate role due to his development through the season, or that Marincin, Holl and Ozighanov have played themselves out of it?

Reason I ask, is because most of Rosen's NHL appearances to date, including preseason work, can only be generously termed as "somewhat lacking".

I don't remember it like that.  I just don't remember it much at all.  He didn't get that many games in.

He has literally only played 4 games with the Leafs and has played 116 games with the Marlies.  By all accounts, he has become an extremely reliable all-around defenseman for the Marlies.

In 17/18 his preseason performance was good enough to earn himself a spot in the line-up to start the season. I won't pretend to remember how well he performed but he did have a 58% CF in 4 regular season games, but was 1-3 in GF. In the 18/19 preseason he only played 3 games but the defence line-up was also 100% set already and his waiver status meant he was likely going back down instead of Marincin/Holl, so there wasn't much to play for.

But for what it's worth it sure sounds like he's emerged as one of the best defencemen in the entire AHL this season.

I have watched quite a few Marlies games and Rosen is ready, great skater, has poise with the puck, which is what I would like to say about a few existing Leaf D-Men.

Rielly freak concussion in pre-game skate Henny reports.
Also, Freddy tweaks groin and Auston has rheumatism.
jk april foo
